MRS. WALTE R C. BARBOU R Counselor GUIDANCE SERVICES Since 1944, the Fort Worth Public Schools, with board of education approval, have had an organized guidance program in the secondary schools. This program grew out of an increased realization that pupils differ physically, mentally, and emotionally. Guidance services were built around two basic functions: the DISTRIBUTIVE FUNCTION which aims to place pupils into activities of schools and courses offered on the basis of ability, interest, and ambition, and the ADJUSTIVE FUNCTION which aims to give pupils individual assistance in school. Counselors feel that the individual pupil is of prime importance, and his development to the limit of his potentiality is our chief aim. It is our purpose to make all resources of the schools available to pupils in order that they may learn, primarily by their own efforts, to make wise decisions and to solve problems independently. Assistance is provided by our program of guidance services.
