Essentially the function of education today is as it has always been: to create a literate society, to improve the in- dividual, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Emphasis has been changed, for example, the greater emphasis on science, mathematics, and languages. Equally important are mu- sic, literature, fine and industrial arts. No society has become great on the basis of mechanics alone.
