Class History Our class history begins in 1961 with an eager, but headstrong ninth grade. That year is full of memo- ries such as Mrs. Leyva's surprise birthday party, purchasing class pins, and frustrating rehearsals for the graduation march. With the leadership of our presidents Ernesto Gomez and David Ratliff we made it through to June and our graduation from Junior High. Graduation was an exciting event held at the Engineer's College with special awards going to Ernesto G6mez, Carol Isales and Harriet Ashton for outstanding work in English, Social Studies and Science respec- tively. The special event was celebrated with a party held at Carmen Martnorani's house till 2:00 A.M. Our sophomore year was a full one led by our very active homeroom teacher Mrs. Brady. We began the year by having a Columbus Day picnic at Punta Salinas Beach. That year we sponsored the first Career Conference for Commonwealth School. Fond memories of visiting lecturers, precise exercises and Book Reports still linger in our minds. We began our Junior year with great hopes for a better Junior-Senior Prom that following June. Led by our capable president George Gordon and our homeroom teacher Mrs. Alvarado we held dances and raffles to increase our treasury. Our fondest memory of that year was our ring ceremony, marked by the presentation of a class ring to our president in recognition and appreciation for all' his work. ' june came with a very nice Prom held at the Club Nautico followed at 5:00 A.M. with a breakfast at Mrs. Huntei-'s house. To end it all there was a beach party at Shell Beach. Last, and most important of all is our Senior year. The success of this year was due greatly to the wonderful spirit of Unity attained for the first time by this class of seniors. Never before has a class enjoyed such cooperation from the parents, faculty and administration. The class response to the help and leadership of our homeroom teacher, Mrs, McCurdy and our class president, Mike Sollins, was outstanding as proved by the inspiring success of our first and main activity, the senior carnival, held on November 6, 1964. With a profit of S900 the class had more than surpassed their goal for the treasury. A raffle and a couple of well planned dances rounded out their success. The year passed with a perfect Sneak Day at Vega Baja beach and a dance at Jan West's house after- wards. The last semester was marked with a great concentration on college plans, busy preparation for a Junior - Senior Prom and finally graduation. And so ends the history of the graduating class of 1965, but began the future of ever widening horizons. .W
