Chess Club ThefChess Club has twenty members and is co-sponsored by Mr. Sanguinetti and Mr. Spear. C-lub meetings are held once a month and highly competitive games are en- joyed by the club sponsors as well as the members. Chess tourna- ments are held. Speech Club The Speech Club is made up of eighth and ninth grade speech students with an A average in the subject. We have been most busy this year, starting off with spots in assemblies and a program for PTA. Also, we entertained the Business and Professional Women and the Toastmasters' Club. Our first contest was sponsored by California Trial Lawyers' Assn. and the subject was: The Judicial System and Its Impact Upon the American Scene Today. Two weeks later our Annual After-Dinner Speaking Contest was held at Minnie's. The next month came our Original Oratory Contest. We finished the year with a contest in Dramatic Interpretation and then -Programmed Reading. The eighthigrade members had two contests - Humorous Interpretation and Programmed Reading. In the meantime, when we were not busy working, Various speakers from the community and high school and college contestants were our guests. It was a very good year and We are looking forward to another one with the class of '74, J-'41 I The WINNERS !
