To 1lfClIlIIf'l'S of C. H. S. 1937: If there is any royal road to learning- or earning, or other success, it is the royalty that comes through lessons learned hy hard work, sacrilice and even failure. Sometimes I think that we have come upon troublesome times. and that the so-called good old days have gone, never to return. But one has only to look over the tiles of old newspapers, magazines or records to find that every age has sul- fered its troublesome times. So today is no exception. You have youth in your favor, and no harrier to success is too great for your sort to surmount. But ahove all things, do not he lulled into the dreams of get- rieh-quick schemes and an income without lahor. VVork hard, play some and read the best in news and fiction. Thus will come supreme happiness. ., if S 4-Y YU- R S

A Message to the Class of 1937: Ahead of each of you lies a long search for the Golden Fleece. There are Jasons among you, and Medeas to help the Jasons. Atalante, cousin of jason, is here too. He, you remember, was a winner of races fwho chose finally to be diverted by a golden applej. There are ahead of you Scylla and Charybdis and Symplegades, the clashing islands. It is not always possible to evade difficulties. May you be fortunate enough to meet along the journey a sage or two whose experience will help you chart your course, and may you ever be conscious of a power outside ourselves that makes for righteousness. Humans may be divided into two classes-the learners and those who think they are educated. The learners do not stop growing because some institution has awarded them a piece of paper. They find creative recreation for their leisure time, they read good booksg they enjoy intelligently the radio, screen, and stageg they follow the newsg they try to avoid prejudice, they work for justice and a better social order-in other words, they live the good life. My farewell wish to you of the Class of 1937 is that you may continue ever to be learners, and that you may find the golden Heece of happiness. Your friend, DORIS P. MERRILL. 7
