DUR AlL,lL-,CllTY FOOTBALL TEAM CITY CHAMPS CRUSH THOMASTON Commercial put together a great air and ground attack to gain a 24-0 victory over Robert E. Lee. The passes were thrown by George Thompson to All- State end Billy Phillips. The fine running attack was led by Sonny Bunton and Tommy Rewis, The Cobras' first score came on a drive worth 72 yards. Mc- Elveen sparked the drive with a 57-yard touchdown run. The second score came on a 51-yard pass from Thompson to Phillips. The final tally was added late in the game when Sonny Bunton was sprung loose for 62 yards. COBRAS KNOCK OVER CADETS This was the big one for the Cobras. When the dust had cleared at Grayson Stadium-Commercial had beat Benedic- tine 20-6, to wrap up the city champion- ship. This was the most enjoyable victory for Spellman and crew during the year. B. C. struck paydirt early in the second period on a line plunge by halfback john Clancy for their first and only score of the night. The Cobras struck right back with 15 seconds remaining in the first half. The TD came on a 10-yard pass from George Thompson to Danny Akins. Thompson's PAT was good and the Snakes held a 7-6 lead at the halftime. Midway the third period George Thompson threw a tremendous pass to Phillips on a play that netted some 65 yards. Commercial's last score came on another pass from Thompson to Phillips that carried about 20 yards. COMETS UPSET COBRAS The Commercial Cobras finished out their football season in Douglas by losing to Coffee County 35-32. Tommy Rewis scored the game's first TD on a 60- yard run around left end. Sonny Bunton, speedy halfback, scored two touchdowns on long runs but both were nullified because of penalty. Billy Phillips struck paydirt twice on an intercepted pass worth 80 yards and a 40-yard pass from George Thompson. McElveen and Bunton tallied the other scores for Commercial. l55
