From this material Mr. Clark and Mr, Finnegan hammered out a team which, although often defeated did not dishonor Commercial. , ' , CCENISC The first gridiron struggle of the season was with Richmond Hill. When the whistle blew, ending the first half, the ball was on our opponent's one-yard line. Another minute of play might have told a different story from the final score of 0 to O. The first important game of the season was played on October 3 against the High School of Commerce. The New Yorkers had the heavier team, but our men were' the faster. Butler played a brilliant game, but at times was poorly supported. On the whole, however, our team did well, holding Commerce .to a field goal in the first half, and a final score of 41 to O. In a mid-week contest, Commercial defeated the Brooklyn Col- lege team by the score of 11 to 41. VVe outweighed our opponents, played faster, and showed better team work. On October 10, Commercial journeyed to Cornwall-on-the- Hudson. There we went down in honorable defeat before tl1e New York Military Academy eleven, the score being 5 to O. The Academy team was the heavier, but our boys played a very creditable game. , 'Boys' High School defeated us by a 5 to O score on Coinmer- cial's field, October 17. Costly fumbling tells the tale. On October 241, our' boys badly defeated Stuyvesant High School by the liberal score of 17 to 0. VVe completely outplayed our opponents at every point, although the latter were considerably heavier.
