Mr. Raymond J. Montagna, assistant principal, also entered our school in September of 1953. Since that time, he has faithfully fulfilled his many duties, which include the direction of Com- merce Capers, social functions, and faculty and student schedules. His main tasks are administra- tive, in the disciplinary field. Mr. Montagna was born in Agawam, Massa- chusetts. He received his B.S. from American In- ternational College, his M. Ed. from Springfield College, and has continued his graduate studies at the University of Massachusetts. Before taking his present position here at Commerce, Mr. Mon- tagna taught mathematics at Agawam High School and Chestnut Street Junior High School. Miss Mary Rearden Secretary to Dr. Gamel Mrs. Dorothy Malone Office Staff Dr. Oscar Y. Gamel, principal, assumed his posi- tion at the High School of Commerce in Septem- ber, 1953. During these last five years, he has been instrumental in bringing about many im- provements in our school. In addition to adminis- trative work, Dr. Gamel has always been able to find time to accommodate the students who seek his advice and approval on various matters. Born in Moody, Texas, Dr. Gamel received his B.A. from West Texas State College. He then attended Columbia University, where he earned his M. Ed. and Ph. D. Ed. degrees. Before he came to Commerce, he was assistant principal of Van Sickle Junior High School and principal of Chest- nut Street Junior High School.
