Co-captains, Charles Blanton and Milton McClung, Tim Brewer, Ladayne Johnson, and Jerry Hendrix were the Tiger represen- tatives on the l3AA All-District football team. Johnson and Hendrix were also placed on the All-East Texas team. A 185-pound guard, Johnson made both the DALLAS TIMES HERALD 'S and the FT. WORTH STAR TELEGRAM'S all-state teams. He also received honorable mention from the Wigwam Wisemen's of America, a national high school all-star football selec- tion group. Receiving all-district honorable mention were Jimmy Bryant, Neal Stewart, Murrel Hogue, Charles Brown, Bill Roundtree, Billy Follis, and Mack Stringer. After having three touchdowns called back because of penalties in a scoreless first half, Commerce romp- ed over Mt, Vernon 31-0 in the first District l3AA tilt. Stopped cold on their first two offensive thrusts, the Tigers struck for five touchdowns and a 32-6 win over Pittsburg in a big second step in the district race. Tiger Appreciation Night was the occasion, Winns- boro's Red Raiders the opposition, and Commerce moved to within one step of their first district cham- pionship in eleven years with a 33-13 victory. The District l3AA crown was hanging in the balance as the Tigers invaded Bonham for the season's finale. After 48 minutes of bruising football before a capacity crowd, the scoreboard showed the Warriors on the heavy end of a 27-13 score. Co-captain Milton McClung Q33-J.
