In the 1956 curtain raiser at Clarksville, the Tigers scored on the first play of the game and went on to blast the opposing Tigers 52-0, Two newcomers to the Tiger schedule were next in line as Commerce walloped Canton 39-13 and Quit- man 21-7. Drought-stricken Cooper was the scene of the next non-district game. The victory-hungry Tigers slammed the Bulldogs 39-0 on a dust-choked field. Unable to get their offense rolling, Commerce saw the first smudge go on their perfect record as arch- rival Sulphur Springs downed the Tigers 15-7. Bursting through a brief hole opened by Ladayne Johnson 1635, at left, and Mack Stringer f44J, Charles Brown 1225 picks up yardage at Sulphur Springs.

With Coach Charles Dexter and Coach David Ingram at the controls, the potent Tigers soared to a 7-3 record and second place in District 13AA.
