The Tiger eleven thundered past five opponents before taking their first defeat at the hands of district champ Bonham. Next came a heartbreaker loss to Mt. Pleasant on the last play of the game. But the Commerce team bounced back to defeat their last two foes, Pittsburg and Mt. Vernon. Six Tigers get in on the play as a Cooper player is downed. Jerry Bankhead 1671, Billy Talley f66j, Ladayne Johnson 1631, James Kelly, Larry Gayler and Charles Brown. Coach Don Short's gridders broke an opening game jinx for the first time since 1941 when they dumped the Whitewright Tigers 31-14. Halfback Charles Brown meets two Buckeyes that say 'No go' in the Gil- mer contest. Cooper Bulldogs were next on the list of the rampaging Tigers 27-6. This was a rain-soaked game in Memorial Stadium that saw the Tigers jump offsides twelve times. A soggy turf was again the scene as Commerce rolled on over the favored Sulphur Springs Wildcats 6-O. 5 L L U 1 J 5 m 8 3 L se ' Wi NL QS - - X L pf L A ' 'Llf is K' 5 kL.A Q L p 3 .L I A L LL L p.
