WIND AND MAN The soft wind is murmuring to the treesg It caresses them with a gentle stroke of its hand, Voicing to them exhorbitant promises for the coming summerg And a gentle promise to the moist earth Is breathed from its tender lips. II It sings its song to the birds and bees-and to the people. Its merry laugh awakens the slumbering leaves And makes them dance to its gleeful tuneg Then it quiets its song and murmurs againg Its promises again float upon the eager ears of the trees and earth. III It gathers in its fury to do destructive work. It batters and tears and flings its arms in hate, And it says cruel things into the ears of Mother Nature. Then its hatred is spent and it recedes to the same murmur, The same promises and all is forgiven and forgotten. IV The powers of mankind are like the windg Man murmurs tender words of love and praise. He caresses with his voice and with movementsg He promises and lets emotion arise to the pace of destruction. Then never quite forgiven or forgotten he goes elsewhere to murmur and promise again By RUBY BY1:Rs Fourteen
