The traditions of CHS have been developed since the day of its first opening .... Each Septe mber brings a new cycle of students who make, share, amend, the honor these customs. The shy, lonely Freshman, who hastens up our timeworn steps to his first registration, all too soon becomes the tall, poised Senior who walks triumphantly across the stage to accept his diploma. But the intervening chapter in his life has been made r i c he r and fuller by the CHS traditions he has come to know and lovei Though the spirit of CHS is much too intangible for words and pic- tures, in the pages of this 1956 Arrowhead we endeavor to record this year's school life as it typifies the traditional activities so dear to the hearts of all those who have been or ever will be a part of Comanche High. HARPER, B.S., M.A. Superintendent, Resigned Superintendent Mr. Chaffin was Superintendent of Comanche Schools for eleven years before he resigned December 1, 1955, to become B us ine s s Manager of Belton Schools. Under his leadership Comanc he's school plant was improved and expanded, the instructional program was extended, and its standard s raised, His program also led to CHS rn e mbe r s h ip in the Southern Association of Secondary Schools and Col- leges. Mr. Chaffin was succeeded by Mr. Joe W. Harper of Cranfill Gap. Although Mr. Harper has been with the Comanche system only a short time, he has revealed the ability, personality, and initiative that may well mean the beginning of even more progressive improvements in Comanche Schools. We can express only a small part of our gratitude in tribute to you--our Ind- ians. We are behind you every m ome nt, win or lose--as you try to keep that defe ns e tight, hold onto that pigskin, crash through the line to finally cross that goal and then try to kick that extra point. We commend you for your hard work and unfailing spirit. Tribute we also pay to our new coaches: Murphy, Scott, and Harm on, who work diligently to develop good sports as well as good athletes. SEASON'S RECORD As they began to rebuild after last year's loss of outstanding athletes, the Indian football team won three, tied two, and lost five games to finish fourth in the 1955 district race. Wins were over McGregor, Dublin, and Coleman. Only Mineral Wells, Killeen, and Brady were able to defeat the determined 1955 eleven by more than one touchdown. I ,--I-1-HUNQ As I look back over past ARROWHEADS, I see faces well known and well loved, good time s and experiences ca ptur e d for future years, and most important to each editor, I see the traditions that have originated, grown, and become inbedded in the heart of each graduate, I send a very pe r s onal thank you to all who have helped to make this yearbook possible. Our advertisers, the faculty, the student body-all have aided my overworked staff and untiring sponsor, Mrs. Cox, in the completion of the 1956 ARROWHEAD. As I leave this book with you, I hope that you will treasure the memories which your staff has wo rked so faithfully to preserve for you. --Quay 152
