Class History Fourteen small youngsters anxiously climbed the steps to the first grade room on September 1, 1941. They were Patty Cross, Anna Kiess, Shirley Rowley, Rita Staebler, Joan Valeske, LaVonne Steward, Melberne Elliott, Jim Zimmerman Dale Tjaden, Dale Chestek, Paul Darrow, Bill Linn, David Walsh and Gary Lester. During the year Beverly and Betty Lutz and Florine Bangert joined us. Our teacher was Miss Viola Baker. In the fall of 1942, Melberne Elliott and Betty and Beverly Lutz had fallen from our list of members. LaVonne Steward and David Walsh moved away during the year. Two members, Mary Jean Lunn and John Bonner, increased our number. Miss Baker was again our teacher. Miss Opal Heard welcomed fourteen third graders when school started in 1943. Melberne Elliott had rejoined us. We lost Dale Tjaden. June Noling and Clayton Wiltse joined the class during the fourth year. We were under the instruction of Miss Doris Wilson. Patty Cross and Jim Zimmerman failed to attend school with us during our fifth year. Kathleen Copper and Mary Riat Mooney were our teachers. Mrs. Donald Todd, our sixth grade teacher, found only eleven young folks ready for school. Myrna Timmons joined us in the spring, but Gary Lester and Clayton Wiltse moved away. Miss Mooney gave us our final report cards for that year. After an absence of two years, Jim Zimmerman rejoined us in 1947. However, Paul Darrow left our merry group. Miss Virginia Jaeger was the teacher. Nine eighth graders entered the room of Mrs. Grace Streitmatter in the fall of 1948. Keith Lackore had joined us. June Noling had not come back. Sixteen green but hard working freshmen entered the halls of C, H. S. in 1949. The new members of the class were Kenneth Cordes, Harold and Patty Golly, Roger Grimm, Marvin Solberg, Charles Starr, and Marilyn Waters. Mr. John Halstead was our sponsor. Though we lost Roger Grimm, Alice Wiltse and Richard Bierbaum were added to our number for our sophomore year. Mr. Halstead was again our sponsor. Joan Valeske failed to return with the Junior class of 1951. Alice Witlse moved at the beginning of the second semester. Mrs. Mae Essman was our sponsor. With exception of Kenneth Cordes, all of the juniors returned to finish their high school days together in C. H. S. They were Richard Bierbaum, Dale Chestek, Melberne Elliott, Harold and Patty Golly, Anna Kiess, Keith Lackore, Bill Linn, Shirley Rowley, Marvin Solberg, Rita Staebler, Charles Starr, Marilyn Waters, and Jim Zimmerman. K. E. Steele served as our advisor. 12.
