Additionally, the average number of points per game steadily increased over the past few years. High scorer for the J .V. was Laurie Chrobak with 85 points, who was also named MVP. Co- captain Sue Webber led the varsity team with 90 points. Each squad became a more unified team as the girls learned to believe in themselves and their team by developing positive mental at- titudes. Miss Guerrero, coach of the teams, was very much impressed with the girls' outlook on the games. Below: GIRLS' JR. VARSITY BASKETBALL: Bottom row: M. Rosen, D. Andersohn, K. Sedjo, K. Brown, C. Netmen Successful in Tourn Terminating the season with a 5-9 record, the Varsity tennis team was quite pleased with its good season. The numerous indoor tennis clubs in the area enabled the team to play more frequently in the winter. Coach Belmonte feels that the team acquired a winning attitude and more spirit. The team placed fourth in the Maine South Invitational and third in the dis- trict meet also held at South. Sophomore Norm Peterson, whose record was 18 and 4, was un- defeated in second singles in the conference meets. Next year, the team will have access to five more courts which are being built at Rand Park where the team plays. Coach Dan Wilson feels that the frosh- sophs, 5-5 record was very impressive con- sidering that they played in one of the strongest tennis conferences in the state. Tournaments seemed to highlight the season, with East taking third at the Maine North and West tourneys and accepting first place honors at the Elk Grove contest where they outplayed eight teams. Mr. Wilson noted that this year was a year of rebuilding, since five out of the seven starters were freshmen. According to the coach, there will be better seasons ahead as next year's team will have the experience this year's team lacked.
