Student Council's motto, We Won't Laugh, exemplified the effort to seriously con- sider all students and establish new activities. Homecoming wore a new face this year under the leadership of Maribeth Cleary, and the carnival booths, the helium balloons, the street dance, decorated cars, and traditional firelight rally provided a festive atmosphere for the 2000 who participated. Mini-courses, two days of short courses ranging from astronomy to Zoology, expanded the concept of education at Maine East. The Freebie Winner, the revival of the Winter semi- formal, donation of calculators to the LRC, and support of a Peace Corps school in Cameroun, Africa were other activities. Even the traditional V-Show took on a new outlook, as You Gotta Have A Gimmick spotlighted the talent of 300, and was produced by students for the first time in many years.
