Photo Essay Featured in With new staff adviser Ms. Golman, came many new ideas and changes within the year- book. The photo essay in the Introduction sec- tion was a new feature of Lens. The introduc- tion, used to develop this year's theme, We can make it happen, was intended to expand stu- dent interest beyond the walls of Maine East. The cover design, a progression of pictures from an empty stadium to a capacity crowd, also in- corporated the theme imvolvement. Through the addition of more copy this year, Lens tried to provide a thorough written, as well as pictorial record of the year. Staff members were sent to interview various ad- ministrators, department chairmen, coaches and club advisors to present events and changes which occurred. A Special Events section was added to highlight some of the main events of the year. Also, a reorganization of the staff system oc- curred. The staff for the first time, was divided into various sections with section editors overseeing their group's work. This subdivision enabled members to gain experience in all aspects of yearbook production. For the first time also there were two editors-in-chief, senior Anna Galan and junior Laura Vincolese. Brown Although the year was marked by rising costs, the Pioneer still managed to publish the paper for only one dime. Monitary assistance by the Board of Education enabled the staff to produce a larger paper than last year with no ad- ditional cost to its readers. Activity tickets and cafeteria sales further strengthened the Pioneer, which is published prior to special events. The Neat-O-Adventure Comics became one of the features of the paper. Mrs. Hutson commented on the fine artwork contributed by the staff artists. tl Q Upper Left: Mrs. Hutson goes over an article submitted by Scot Above: Feature Editor Kevin O'Rourke prepares a two-page sprf submitted to the
