Varsity Kickers Score Against State Champs Left: Trying to regain possession of the ball, team captain Steve Criface leaps closer to the ball. Below: Criface jumps for the ball as the opponent gains yardage. The varsity kickers did their best to help boost the popularity of the growing sport. They continued their tradition of hard playing, but couldn't come up with a winning season. Losses to Lake Forest, New Trier East and West helped bring the squad to a disappointing 6-11 season although many of the games were lost by only one goal. A high point of the season was that the Demons were the only team to score two goals on New Trier West, the eventual state champions. Mike Tietz, Most Valuable Player, was the only junior to gain this achievement since 1967 when the team was comprised of juniors. Return of lettermen next season has hopes running high.

With an 11-3 record, the harriers tied with Niles East for se- cond place in the conference. In the 28-school St. Ignatius Invitational, the runners placed thirdg and in the St. Patrick Invitational they finished second out of the 20 competing schools. Outstanding runners were Greg Ciszek, Steve DeChaud, Bob Millar, Jim Donettelli and Jerry Goodman. N.
