Girls' Tennis Changes Strat The Girls' Tennis team faced tough com- retition this year, but succeeded in Winning nany individual matches. The varsity team -nded the season with a 1-9 record, while the lunior Varsity finished with a three win, seven oss season. The biggest problem that the team faced vas its lack of facilities. The girls practiced in shifts. and single players practiced with double Jlayers. Coach Eleanor Broucek and Assistant foach Kathy Guerrero introduced practice irills to improve the team's strategy. The team Nas led by co-captains Lynn Lampert and MVP NNN- Vlary Santry. Miss Broucek feels that the Junior Varsity shows much promise for the future. Q. Pummeling, pistoning they fly In time's face. A go at the limit, A terrible try To smash the ticking glass, Outpace the beat That runs, that streaks away Tireless, and faster than they. Beside ourselves flt is for us they runll We shout and pound the stands For one to win Loving him, whose hard Grace-driven stride Most mocks the clock And almost breaks the bands Which lock us in. -Lee Murchison

Although the varsity team didnlt do as well as predicted by Coach Bovenmeyer, they im- proved considerably over last year with a record of 3-5-1. The change in team strategy partially contributed to the improvement. Coach Bovenmeyer felt that the team played fine hockey and was able to compete with other high schools. Although the junior varsity didn't quite meet the expected demands with a 1-6-1 season record, the experiences gained will contribute to the varsity team next year, when vacancies in the team will be filled with JV players.
