Looking for a Co-Pilot Seainstress Fa rmerette .Iohnny Post Apiarlst 1 .emo 'aiu As all good things must come to an end, so must this, our high school career. A great many of us have been class mates and friends since grade school, and now we shall become separated-for school is the tie that binds. Let us lurn back the calendar to the time when we were freshmen, kind of green, weren't we? We made all the traditional freshman mistakes plus a very embarrassing freshmen assembly. It was so long that even our fellow freshmen went home. Then came the sophomore year, just a little higher rank thut nevertheless rankl. That's when we began to find out that school's for education too! Homework? Yes, indeed! The junior year brought with it the title of Upper Classmenf' Ahem! We lived up to it by being one of the school's most active classes. Remember all the fun we had putting on our Junior Play? It was good, too. The best part was the preview at the grammar school. .loan and Don fixed things up right. Another real achievement was our Junior-Senior Ball. Wasn't that something? Dorothy about went crazy getting the decorations up, but then, didn't we all? Ah . . . the year to top them all. The senior year. The tragic part of it is that so many of our fellows have left for the services before the completion of their reign as seniors. We miss them but we're proud of them. Something new was added when we got the brilliant idea of having a 'iSenior Holiday instead of the usual sneak. Most of us hit off for Sacramento. What a day-and on that day a comedian was born! Donald, your card. The senior year has it's serious side too, with a beautiful baccalaureate service and that fateful graduation soon to be faced. We'll probably all want to cry when we loolc at each other as a class for the last time. lt will be so long to many a happy day, when we say good bye to Colusa Hi. As we leave, we take with us many lasting memories and leave behind us a part of our lives never to be forgotten. CLASS OF 45 F Pop llow-llonnlfl It-lvis, l'lverett Guild. Caftfofcnia .gaagofaugifz iyscfzzafion The flalifornia Scholarship Federation lfhapter of Uolusa High School-was unusually small this year. The niost prominent' reason for this fact is that our school is again raising its standards. This makes it more difficult to make the required grades for entranee into the society. The first semester, our chapter was under the efficient administration of Iloh lflarnsworth. Roh declined the nomination of president for the set-ond semester. The officers elected for the second semester were as follows: .,,,,.,, Del Fullmer President ,..... ........,..,,.,. I lloyd Westphal Many thanks from all the members are given to our advisor, Mrs. Mctlomish, who has had the foresight to steer us away from several perplexing situations. The activities have, in this year as in recent years, suffered because of war time restrictions. The activities held, however, were paid from the ineluhersllip dues. The purpose of the Federation, symbolically, is to pass on the torch of knowledge and learning. That task, I consider 4-oinpletely fulfilled hy the 194-1-45 society. After a year of absence from the roll of High School t'lubs, mucn was to be done to make up for the inactivity of 1943!-44. 'l'he 'first meeting of the year decided upon a Iied Cross project. Among things completed in this line were the Thanksmving favors for the soldiers of Camp lleale. The girls gave freely of their time and effort for this, and were rewarded with the thought that it was helping make a holiday a little happier for boys away from home. Never to he forgotten was the night of initiation of new members. Wide eyed and full of anticipation were they. The iniation was done at a ceremony by candlelight. The girls took their pledges and new names were added to the membership roll. 'l'he games, refreslmients and lun held in the gym with the old members and green horns ot' the lf. F. A. brought a climax to this .joyous evening. The club would he no more without the aid of funds so dues of 50 cent: a year were decided upon. and in order to raise additional money a doughnut sale was held one noon hour. The result of the sale ol' these home made delicacies was a net profit of ten dollars and the proud feeling of success to all members. An agreement for the F. lf. A. boys to furnish the ducks and the Home lrlc. girls the coouing and trimmings ended in the form of a delicious duck dinner honoring several members of the ll' lf. A. entering the armed forces. The activity most looked forward to. and for which the Home Ec. t'lub deserves most recognition, fell -on the evening of December 22nd in the high school auditorium. The result of the worries and efforts of Miss Hartncss, the director. the time and uneasiness of the cast, and the work of all, terminated in the presentation of the beautiful and heart warming story of The Perfect Gift. Several very cooperative boys in the student hody gained the respect of all Home Plc. members for the :iving ot' their talents to make the assembly the success that it was. .is the season closes an interesting and successful chapter draws to a close for the Home lilc. l'lub. it is the sincere wish of the senior members ot' tho club that such a year as this will re-occur without fail in the years to come. To grain membership to the llloek 1' a boy must make a hloek letter in one of the major school sports. He then must he initiated before he is at-eepted. Another aetivity was the lllouk C queen contest. This was sueh a marked sueeess last year that it was deeided that it he an annual affair. This year hen-ause of eonflieting dates, there was not a dance, hut the queen was presented at the I-'uture Farmer llarn llanee. The final aetivily of the llloek tl was the assembly which was presented to th.- Studem' hody the last day of school. TOM IllT'l'Ll'lDGl'1 offs! cgpozfa Due to the older boys being drafted into the armed forces of the United States, or enlisting of their own volition, boys' sports prol-ably didn't have the full strength of man power and experience they have had in the past. There was, however, a full corps of men who turned out for football, forty suits being issued the first practice. Almost twenty were Freshmen. This showed a trend toward football in the younger boys which will make up our future teams. Under Coach B. Glasgow's direction, Colusa had a good team especially on defense, but was weak on offense when the punch was needed to cross the goal line. Although Uolusa did not win a game, they should have won three out of the five they played, but the breaks were against them. After all, that's football. After the hardships of football, more than thirty-five boys came on the floor for basketball. The A team was probably the best team in the league until they lost four of their star players to the service. This setback left the varsity a weaker team although still aggressive. They played mostly defensive ball the rest of the season. The A's won eight games out of twelve which is good for the set back they suffered. The 15's seemed to be an off and on team. One game they wouldn't be able to hold the ball, the next game they would have the opposing team going in circles. Their scoring threat was speed and fast ball handling and for defense, a fast man to man. They won seven games otit of twelve played, but should have won more. The little fellows on the C team won the county championship under Mr. Wilkinsons coaching. They were aggressive and exceptional shots and only lost one game out ol' four. Mr. Newman has a good tennis team this year with quite a few freshmen and experienced men hitting the ball hack and forth across the net. There are possibilities of three interschool meets and the tournament at Chico. Track this year is made up mostly of lettermen with only a few newcomers. Coach has asked ax few of the boys to go up to firland and enter in some of the events of the meet there. They should have a chance of placing in some events as there is good material in this group. Swimming has vet to come, but ii' it is held as in past years, there should he a good meet to watch on the last day of school. All in all, the boys have developed sportsmanship among themselves as they have with other schools. They have learned that winning isn't always the important thing, but that being a good loser is also important. mm. comrom' goofgaff lop liuw-1'o:14-I1 Glzlsgrmv. Hill Vnllins. Guw llrown.
