There were, of course, the annual fall and spring concerts as well as many performances at basketball games. The band also had the privilege of playing for entertainment at a hockey game in Estevan last winter. The band attended the Music Festival at Bowbells and the District Festival at Minot. There were several separate entries which attended these festivals and achieved 1 ratings which went to the State Music Festival at Jamestown on May 10, 1963. Plagued by injuries and lack of depth, the Cougars were decisively broken only twice. The out- standing performance was a 12-0 defeat by perennially strong Powers Lake. 28 Assistant Coach Erickson. Lead by three senior starters, Craig Brenno, Robert Swenson, and Tim Slater, the Cougars compiled a season record of 12 wins and 11 losses. In conference play we ended up in ninth place in the fourteen member Northwest Conference with a conference record of 8 wins and 9 losses. The team was very consistent throughout the season, never losing to a team below us in the con- ference, and never beating a team above us. In the Burke County Tournament, Columbus de- feated Flaxton for third place and in the District tourna- ment in Minot, we were defeated by Crosby who later took second in the tourna- ment. The gym was decorated with roman columns and streamers. A beautiful garden with a fountain as the main attraction was in the middle. The orchestra was the Colligiates of M.S.C. During the intermission, the Girls' trio sang Three Coins in a Fountain and Mr. Lorenz sang Around the World and Some Enchanted Evening.
