The inexperienced team made great progress during the season, and most players felt that in spite of the score the Bowbells game marked the outstanding team ef- fort of the year. 7 . . . Playing in the perennially strong Northwest Conference, we finished ninth in the thirteen team standings. The season was not without its compensations. Among these were our victories over Bowbells and Powers Lake which led us to the championship of the Burke County Tourney. Other highlights were our victories over the Eskimos and Ranchers in conference play, and the win over the tough Kenmare squad which went on to a sec- ond place finish in the District 10 Tournament at Minot. Four men are lost by graduation this year. They are Keith Nordtvedt, who consistently led the team's scoring and rebounding; Dennis Rude, who was the floor leader and key defensive man; and Gary Darras and Kevin Durick, both of whom performed capably throughout the season. 28 29 Mr. Troxel, Ronald Brothen, Kerry Strom, Roger Dollaiiiide, Jim Anderson, Charles Swenson, Tim Durick, Bobby Casteel, Keith Berg, Jimmy Miller, Student Manager Danny Bratlien. In its second year as an interscholastic sport, baseball was badly hampered by the inclement weather this spring. A schedule of six games was completed. The squad was a young team with only two senior members. Showing much promise, the team won five games before losing to Bowbells in the sub-district playoff. Potts, R. Rude, D. Rude, K. Strom. Track benefitted this year from increased interest and as a result we enjoyed possibly our most active and successful season. While not winning any meets, the team made a good showing in each meet it entered. We finished 2nd in the Burke County meet, 3rd at Carpio, 5th in the Senior Day meet at Minot, and 5th in the District meet. Our one qualifier for the state meet failed to score. Keith Nordtvedt, the defending state cham- pion in the broadjump, set new standards for individual scoring. Scoring consistently between 10 and 15 points per meet, Keith reached a high of 20 points with firsts in four events in the county meet. Suffering a pulled muscle in the preliminaries at the state, Keith was unable to retain his title this spring. 40 QwtAjuuoAioi i We k Ready for Baccalaureate. Senior reception after Baccalaureate.
