Officials behind the iron curtain today received an ultimatum from the United States Embassy for the prompt release of an United States Citizen, our own Jerome Carlson, whom they have had in custody for several months. Jerome invented a new type of wheat combine and met with such success in Russia that they have refused to let him leave. The ultimatum was issued, however, on a plea from LeRoy Gilbertson that he be allowed to go back to the United States to finish his invention on a typewriter that will not make mistakes. He is sure he can make a million dollars on it if he can perfect it and get it installed in high school typing classes. CLASS PROPHECY As Father Time unrolls his scroll in 1980, we prophecy that each member of this class will have made a name for himself in this big, wide world. On the basis of their know- ledge inherited, education acquired and experiences obtained during their days at Columbus High School, the class prophecy is as follows: Norris Anderson finally chalked up a win this year in the Memorial Day race at the Indianapolis Speedway, Norris has been practicing since his high school days on these speed runs and this year it paid off in first place money. He has a special section of the grandstand reserved each time he races for seating his out-of-town girl friends who come to watch him perform. Dr. Douglas Bonsness, D.D., D.D.T., world famous plastic surgeon, has recently shocked the world with new experiments using parts of elephants trunks in grafting. His patients are warned to keep away from places where peanuts are served. Marlowe Brusven has staked out one of the first homesteads on the planet of Mars. He got a lot of farming experience during high school days and when he heard that there were no women on Mars he decided that was the place for a shy, bashful, fellow like him to live. Gary Burau, who made his first million on a small farm in Burke County raising brown- nosed Herefords, now has made his second million on Broadway. Gary was a most successful farmer but not completely happv on the farm because he liked to be around a string of girls. He has now bought a share in Radio City where he is the producer in charge of the world famous Radio City Rockettes—a half a hundred beautiful girls under his control and he says now he has found his fulfillment. Dianne Parras, who always had an answer for everything, got into the big money last night on the TV program Keep Talking. She has been a contestant for the past 18 weeks and so far has never run out of chatter, thereby raking up a grand total of $15.49. Dianne said she expected to use her earnings to take a trip to Texas where she hopes to make the acquaintance of a rich oil tycoon. The National Association of Secretaries today voted Sandra Granrud a most outstanding secretary of the year. Sandra has been employed in the offices of Yakity-Yak TV Associates, a studio for producing TV Commercials. She won the recommendation from her boss for this honor of secretary of the year for her contribution of quietness. When asked how she learned to be so quiet, sne said she had been in school witn a class of 16 other girls and never got a chance to talk. Woman lawyer Lorna Guderjohn finally won a case, her first in fifteen years. It was a case of Purina Chickens, won at a raffle sponsored by the Science Club. Dr. Clayton Holte has recently been on probation for telling his patient that those teeth are all right, but those gums have got to go. The City Publishing Company in New Salem has just presented to Sarann Carlstad a gold bound copy of her latest book, Friendship is a Golden Chain, which has sold over a million copies. Miss Carlstad is the author of a long list of best sellers and tall tales. Her writings are a hobby she pursues in her spare time from her regular job of editing the magazines of Glamor and Mademoiselle. Myrna Running and Sallle Burau, experts on love and marriage, have just published their latest Hook entitled, Tross Over the Bridge of Love—Happiness Is Just Over the Hill” A special luncheon was given today on Capital Hill in honor of Financial Secretary Karmen Ronning, after an associated press release gave the news that for the first time in the nation’s history, the budget had been balanced and that prosperity was at an all-time high. Karmen is a certified public accountant and with her keen business judgement, has wiped out unemployment completely except for a small section in Burke County, North Dakota, where we still hear rumors from Columbus High School .that 99% are not working. Friends of Bonnie Farstad were surprised to see her on TV last night doing the commercial for new improved Geritol, the bone, blood, and body builder. She told of her own personal experience of trying to lose weight without cutting down on food, an experiment she has worked on since her high school days. New Geritol is the product of her efforts. Jeannette Nordtvedt has been appointed to the Presidents Cabinet as Secretary of the Treasury. Jeannette will take over the position as soon as she can get released from her duties as Inspector in the Internal Revenue Department. She says she feels well qualified for the job for she relates that anyone who can keep a set of class treasurer books for seniors can tackle almost anything. She will be the only woman on the cabinet but she always was able to get along with the opposite sex so that should prove no problem to her. Myrna Dewing, who has a Ph.D. from Columbia University in New York, has been given the presidential appointment of foreign ambassador to Pakistan. Her knowledge of foreign affairs makes her a perfect choice for the post and the first hand information she gained during the five years she was a private secretary in the White House will be invaluable to her in her new job. Larry love'em and leave'em Haugerud is now divorcing his sixth wife. He says he just can t find one who can run the tractor on his 500 acre farm. You'd never guess it! After many years of unsuccessful marriages. Perky Rude is now president of the Lonely Hearts Club”. Her motto, Love'em, beat era, cheat'em, and leave'
