QBE QUALITY BASIC EDUCATION Quality Basic Education, a state plan for school funding, was effected during the 1985-86 school year. The basis of QBE's funding plans is having the student in six classes a day and in as many academic subjects as possible, The state has certain subiects which it will sponsor, and the Muscogee County Schooi District will allow schools to offer only those selected state sponsored classes, The school receives a certain amount of money for each student that attends a state approved class each period, The extra money provided by QBE will be used for teachers' salaries and teaching materials. Quality Basic Education places special emphasis on the four major academic areas, which should be a high school student's number one priority - math, English, science, and social studies. The object is to get every student in sixkclasses per day, The system encourages students to select academic courses when registering. l QBE states that the only classes to be offered during school are those which are state approved and funded. Because of this, the yearbook and newspaper staffs of area schools must meet after school hours. Driver's Education classes were terminated because of QBE. One full room of typewriters was removed from the campus. QBE limits in-school activities, such as assemblies and pep rallies. Class time is valuable, so assemblies and pep rallies must be made worthwhile. Pep rallies must be organized and any assemblies must be for important matters. 'ii-rw 20 Quality Basic Education
