PHYSICAL EDUCATION Not only do the girls play a hard game of basketball, but they al- so can manage some difficult tumbling acts. ln no other class for high school girls is found such a good chance to display un- surpassed teamwork and to better acquaint themselves with each other. Throughout the school year, the girls en- joy playing volleyball, bas- ketball, baseball, and some other of the not too strenuous games. fi x ,3,w j4.,,r, f Q. 3, MR. HERMAN DOLLAR B.S., University of Boys, gym work offers the same opportunity for per- sonal development that girls, gym does. ln addition to football, basketball, softball, ping pong, horse shoes, and calisthenics, swimming is also available to the boys. These two pictures show some of the ways the nominees in- fluenced our votes when the election was held last May. The purpose of the Student Council is to govern the students in a democratic way with the approval of the faculty and to promote the best interests of school life through service to the faculty and student body. It seeks to promote this aim by creating a sense of loyalty and pride in school property and by interesting the students in the activities of the school. First crude attempts at drawing depth, under the supervision of the more advanced artist-members, led to research, experiments, and a greater degree of accomplishment. Very popular, also, was the Bradley Farm, Broad Acres, where sketching, swiln- ming, and fishing were combined in recreational-education on an all-day picnic. The Art Club treasury was boosted by the sale of art books for amateur photo- graphers, an attempt which aimed at improving snapshots produced by C. H. S. students. Among the persons who spoke to the club during the year were: Mr. Edward Shorter, curator of the Columbus Museum of Arts, who spoke to the club about com- position, Mr. Fudge, of the Georgia Power Company, who spoke about different types of lights and the purposes for which they could be used, Dr. John Miller, a Columbus oculist. whose topic was 3-DQ Mr. Jim Miner, a local free-lance artist, Mr. J. C. Harris, the head of the Standard Printing Company of Columbus, who gave pointers on the posters which the art students made for National Education Week, and Mrs. Mary Passaillaigue, a local artist, who spoke on the subject of color. w H X 1 f f X X ., - lx..
