COHIICHN The Senior Class of 1933 notes with deep regret the resignation of Miss Ureola Cheves, after eighteen years of effective service as head of the Department of History of the Columbus High School. In her going, we suffer the loss of an effic- ient and inspiring teacher. Her high ideals of scholarship, however, will remain to inspire those whom she has taught. I7.33'kl935 Seniors .XF . ox-. ' . We were thrilled by the expectation of new adventure and learning. There was a faint suspicion in our minds, however, that this new adventure would be filled with trials and hardships. We were standing in the hall in front of the ofTice in small groups talking to our friends and school uChlll1lS,,. Everything we saw awed and bewildered us. The size of the building astounded us because we were accustomed to a compar- atively small building for a school. All our reveries were interrupted when Mr. Kendrick came out of his office and sent us to some teacher's rooms. There we were given small white cards called schedule cards, which were to serve as guides, These schedule cards proved to be insufficient to direct us around such a large building. Mr. Kendrick next sent us to assembly. He was very kind and friendly and gave us some much needed advice and directions. Despite his directions, pande- monium reigned the first day. Freshmen were running around, as the expression goes, like blind dogs in a meat house. During the first year we were pestered and bullied by overbearing sopho- mores , pitied by proud juniors , and paid little attention by dignified seniors . We had numerous chances to demonstrate sales resistance when aforesaid bullies tried to sell us pie checks and credits . Some kind junior or senior usually came along just in time. Finallv we became so Jhomores and enjoyed esterinff the new freshmen. . D We were perhaps more egotistic at this time than at any other during our high school careers . After conquering the dragons in the form of monthly tests by the sword of daily preparation and attentiveness, we became juniors. We were given the privilege of putting penny pictures in the annual, Some of us went out for football and basket ball. Now we have come to the senior year. We have chosen capable officers and accomplished the task of making an annual. We hope that this memorial to our state shall mark our progress in Education. Although we experience a certain pleasure in graduation, and a thrill in the prospect of going to college, we hate to leave the school where we have spent so many happy days and smade so many staunch friends. LOUISE HINTON JOHN SLADE CAROL SIMMONS ul- ' President Secretary I Vice-President Historq of the Junior Class September 21, 1930, a large number of scared Freshmen entered C. H. S. grasping little blue tickets in slightly trembling hands, As is the habit of all true Freshmen, we all got lost, but even the most erring of the little ratsv knew where to go about the fourth or fifth period when the word Lunch adorned the white schedule card. But with the assistance of our elders we finally accomplished what was required of us as Freshmen. Then came the thrill of being Sophomores, new teachers, new friends, and new studies. VVe were finally herded together for the election of our class officers. After the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays, we endured the agonies of the final tests. A new term was started with many resolutions for the New Year, and everyone working toward the goal of being .luniors. The majority of us are here in our Junior year and, in spite of the usual trials of a .lunior, feel that we are succeeding. We are already speaking of this time next year when we are Seniors. Hut when we have reached those heights, llllly it not be said of us: That lowliness is young ambition's ladder Where to the climber upward turns his faceg But when he once attains the upmosl round He then unto the ladder turns his backg Looks into the clouds, scorning the base degrees By which he did ascend?
