The Columbiaville-Otisville-Otter Lake School Reorganization Project Story For many years the towns of Colurnbiaville, Otisville, and Otter Lake: and their rural districts have wanted to unite their districts into one big school district in which a high school would be built to give the pupils a better education, better facilities, and a wider variety of subjects to choose from. The new school would give a complete program of agriculture, industrial arts, home economics, and college preparatory courses. The people were looking for a school that would be one of the best and most modern of any school in either Genesee or Lapeer Counties. On October 23, 1954, the people from the town and rural districts voted whether to re- organize and build a new school. They voted an emphatic Yes. On December 11, 1954, an election was held to determine the new Board of Education. Elected were: Archie Hunter of Otter Lake: Arthur Elliott from the Genesee Rural Dis- tricts: Elma Blue of Columbiavilleg Clyde Ross of the Lapeer Rura1,Districts: and Lawrence Lyon of Otisville..The new Board formed all the districts into one known as District No. 21. A contest was started to decide upon the name of the new school. The Board-will select the name and a 525.00 United States Savings Bond will go to the one submitting it. The Board received applications from candidates for the new Superintendent's position. Chosen was Mr. Dalton Coe.. Mr. Coe?was born in Lapeer County and graduated from Otter Lake High School. Upon graduation, he attended the Lapeer County Normal School. From there he went to Michigan Normal College to receive his Bachelor of Science Degree, and the University of Michigan, where he received his Master's Degree. He was Principal at Farmington and Milford, and has been Superintendent at Three Oaks since 1950. Mr. Coe is married and has four children. Although we are sorry to see Columbiaville High School pass out of existence, we are happy that the people of District No. 21 have taken a stride forward for the education of their children. t Q' SCHOOL, BOARD LEFT TO RIGHT: L.
