Varsity Basketball ROW ONE: Wm. Krcgcr, E. O'Del1, I. Baker, R. Hunt. ROW TWO: Manager C. Tibbits, W. Collier, J. Knickerbocker, J. Parks, coach, Mr. Rosenbaum. Not present: Ronald Myers. The Varsity was made up of eight men with five returning veterans: Jerry Baker, Bob Ilunt, lirvvin O'Dell, Jack Knicherboeker, and Ronald Myersg Bill Kruger, Wayne Collier, and Jerry Parks moved up from the second team making a fairly strong team. The Wolves had a let of height this year with Ronald Myers and Jack knickerbocker both 6' 5 and the rest of thc team averaging 5' FJ . The Wolves won seven out ofthe twelve games in regular season. They lest three non- league games. The Wolves were never defeated very hadly and played a quite siren-cssfiil season. They ended up third in the Little SeveuLeaguu. ljrvxin O'Dell uns named to the First team of the Little Seven, Ronald XlyerS made the Serond team and Jack Knicherboeker and Bob Hunt receix ed llenorable Mention. Due to the laek of material and to the loss of key men in our already weak team, Columbiaville suffered one of the worst seasons since football was instituted here. Returning veterans from last year saw' Bob llunt, Jerry Baker, Kay McDowell, Don Mayberry, lirwin 0'De11, Ron Myers, llllison Roach, Jerry Parks, Chuck Edwards, Wayne Collier and Junior Case to bolster the wolves l63lTI this year. Bob llurrt, Jerry Baker, Kay lxlc-Dovvell, and Don Mayberry were Olll most ofthe season. Ellison Roach was troubled by a had knee and missed a couple of the games. The wolves had a verv young team but there is hope that they will develop with a little experience and bring C, ll. S. out ofits' dismal experience with flying colors. District Champions-1954 Columbiaville was matched against Otter Lake in the Class D District Opener at Millington. The Wolves, using reserves throughout almost the entire game, won easily 57-28. In the second game Columbiaville met Reese, who had drawn a hye in the first round. C0- lumbiavillc- was again victor as they walked off with a 4-l-28 score. In the District Final, Columbiaville met Kingston, who had walloped Freshman Frankenmuth the night before. 'iolumbiaville led by a surprising lil- 8 margin at the end ofthe first period. At the half, the Wolves were sporting a hefty 25-l-l lead. ln the third period there was no let up in the inspired Columbiaville team as they lcd 39- 23. It was a losing cause for the Cardinals though as Columbiaville won 51- 40. GUESS WHO WON? PRESENTATION OF TROPHY ln the first round of the Flint Regional Tourney, Columbiaville drew Bay Port. The Wolves found themselves in a familiar tourney role as underdog. But disregarding statistics and ratings, the Wolves took Bay Port -17-42 in a last quarter rally that put them into the semi- finals, ln the semi- finals ofthe Regionals, Clolumbiaville was matched against Flint St. ,lohn's. In the first quarter St. Johns took a 12-4 lead which later proved to be disastrous for the Wolves. ln the thisd quarter the Wolxes outscored St. john I-l-11 to pull the score all even at 29 apiece. ln the final period Columbiaville outscored I2-6 to take a -l I- 125 defeat. 41
