Message from the President of the Student Council The world is neither wise nor just, but it makes up for its folly and injustice by being damnably sentimental. -T. H. Huxley. Man lives largely by his memory of the past, and his dreams and aspirations for the future. Yet his present remains his most meaningful, and yet the most fleeting of his total- ity of experience. This book will be our link in the days to come-our official pass to moments of sentimentality, Whether we stand on the threshold of a new and emerging career, or Whether we are entering a new phase of an already established careerg whether we be the young and enthusi- astic, or the appropriately or prematurely greying cynicg Whether we be administrators, bio- statisticians, maternity nurses, nutritionists, public health physicians, or other health work- ers-for all of us this has been a momentous year. From the far corners of the world, and of the United States, We have come together, and each of us has left a mark on the other. To most of us, this melting-pot, this heterogeneity. this admixture of disciplines, of ideas, of ideologies, and philosophies, has been one of the most meaningful things about the year We have spent together. We have, by learning about one another, made the world smaller, and in so doing have widened the horizons of all of us. Throughout the year it has been my Privilege and pleasure to be President of the Stu- dent Council. The Council has attempted to bring the diverse student group closer together, to help neutralize the anxieties of our highly-pressured courses, and to present the point-of- view of the students to the Faculty. We hope that We have succeeded. I speak for us all when I say we have enjoyed working together on your behalf. To all the Faculty, to our Dean, Dr. Ray Trussell, to our Faculty Advisor, Dr. Frances Gearing, we say-thanks-for the opportunity and the guidance you have given us. For the future, our group has the chance to give leadership in the fields of Administrative Medicine and Public Health. Let us accept that responsibility, with confidence but with humility. Initial class party in basement auditorium. Christmas party, skit and musical program for students, friends and faculty. Visiting Greek lecturer, heard only by Dr. Mata Kouvari. Christmas vacation. Dr. Bob Niebling marries. Farewell cocktails and songs for the student nurse-midwives and the Class of 1961 hospital administrators. Carmen Rodriquez, student statistician, and Harry Landbo, hospital administration student, wed in Puerto Rico. Day of rest between semesters. Party for returning 1960 class of hospital administrators. Dr. Zaki's canapes and dancing mark end of third quarter merrily. Immunization program sponsored by the Student Council. Alumni Day - Dr. Haven Emerson plaque presented by Alumni Association to the School of Public Health. Student field trips to Albany, N.Y. qM.P.H. groupj and to Washington, D.C.
