MESSAGE FROM DR. TRUSSELL Qinlumhla Qklnlhersltp SCHOOL OF PUBLIC HEALTH AND ADMINISTRATIVE MEDICINE of va: FACULTY OF MEDICINE soo wzsr new smear, New wan zz N v To the Class of '6o: Every class that passes through the School has certain distinctive characteristics w'h:l.ch draw the attention of the Faculty. Each year some Faculty member will say, somshow this class is d:l.fferent. On the lighter side, it is certainly true that the talent which appears at the Class parties each year varies widely and somehow seems the' best yet. Only the lanrpooning of epidemiology is constant from year to year - nevertheless there is always a fresh approach to the five steps to the lhoad Street pump. Perhaps the one characteristic which does not change from class to class is that of sincerity. There are far too few of you, and it is fortunate for the public you serve that you are sincere - a trait not always found in all forms of human endeavor. Your endeavor, however, which will be to protect and restore the publicls health cannot be tarnished by insincerity nor do I think it ever will ba. The Faculty wish you success and the courage to use your slclll and your common sense. A great many people will live or die depending on how well you do so. We are proud to have had you with us for one year of what we hope and expect will be a professional 1ifet:l.me of continued self-education and growth. Q 57mm Ray E. q1'Ar1sssll,M.D. ,M.P.Fl. Director 2 RAY E. TRUSSELL, M.D., M.P.H. Director, School of Public Health and Administrative Medicine

The School of Public Health and Administrative Medicine is an integral part of the Faculty of Medicine of Columbia Univer- sity, and it shares in the research and teaching resources of the Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center. For this reason, it seemed appropriate to the Editors to have a view of the Medical Center on the cover of this Yearbook of the Class of 1960. Our School has a World-wide influence: members of the Faculty, in the past year, have been to Africa, Asia and Latin Americag in the reverse direction, students from these areas have come to the School to study. 1

THE FACULTY We regret that some familiar faces are absent from the photographs of the Faculty on this page. To find a single day and hour when all Faculty members could be together is almost impossible: however. the attendance at the monthly faculty meeting at which these photographs were taken was the highest for many months. .Q fag Front row, left to right: Dr. Edward Suchman, Dr. George Rosen, Dr. Harold Brown, Dr. Bea- trice Mintz, Phyllis B.
