FGREWORD HIS YEARBOOK is a record of the Class of 1956 at Columbia University School of Public Health and Administrative Medicine. The Class is quite heterogeneous. its members representing many backgrounds, interests and disciplines. In spite of these varied backgrounds, both geographic and professional, the ability of the student body and faculty to function as a team is demonstrated by this yearbook. Under the signal leadership of Dr. Ray E. Trussell, faculty and students alike have profited from the school's curriculum. This Class is something more than the sum of its student mem- bers. It is a dynamic entity resulting from the interplay of individual influences exerted by the students, faculty and school. Employing the epidemiological concept of the natural history of disease for analogy, we have students as host, faculty as agent, and school as environment -producing the Class of 1956. 5
