fx X ig., 'FDR ,K-K' X l ,f ii' g il X x fi Xf Class of 1980 Profile Men, mothers, teachers, R.N.'s, musicians, a nun . . . . the Class of 1980 is a group of people with varied interests and backgrounds. An overwhelming majority are college graduates, with baccalaureate and masters degrees in fields as diverse as Tropical Diseases and Renaissance Literature, with all the liberal and classical arts, social and natural sciences in between. Career goals range from MedfSurg staff nurse to the nursing softwares industry. A majority of our class hopes eventually to pursue graduate study in nursing. No single area of nursing stands out as the prototype for our class's career choice. Major interests appear to be midwifery, pediatrics and community health. Few classmates delineated specific Five-Year Plans. We are vague in projecting to that dateline, but do find that many are planning on working in MedlSurg upon graduation and branching out from that foundation. We do not appear to have many future nursing educators among us, perhaps the memories are too recent. To generalize we can say that the Class of 1980 is very much a part of the new trend in nursing: combining the best of many areas of nursing to create individualized roles within the profession. We are not the stereo-typical woman in white or Nancy Nurse, rather we are educated professionals eager to draw from our varied backgrounds and resources to contribute to the improvement of the nursing profession. if' .J x
