Gill, Associate Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for the Department of Nursing, THE COVER PHOTOGRAPHS show some of the light-hearted moments when our blackies gave way after two long years to senior year's white white stock- ings. And the last months suddenly were only hours long so that we had to rush and connive to put together the following pages. They are a partial record of our three busy, exciting years in Starch if Stripes. QTHE EDITORS Professor Helen F. Westervelt Ann M, Wood Pauline Wood J f 'Dear Class of 1964: I wonder if you can possibly know how very pleased and compli- mented I was to get your lovely card? Needless to say, a bout with surgery and a stay in a hospital make one particularly conscious of the importance of a nurse .... Until now, I have watched this importance through the eyes of other patients and through my camera lens, but personal observation is even more revealing. All the wonderful words I have heard at the Dedication Services have come alive to me. The speakers were so right, it is the person that matters -the empathy, the love. Mine has been a minor case indeed. Its very minority on a floor where there are some very sick people could have relegated me to a backseat situation. Only the human touch of you as nurses has made this whole stay an absolute joy. I envy you your choice of profession. I envy you the wonderful education you are receiving, but most of all I envy you the great contribu- tion you will make to your patients, to your husbands and children, and to all whom you encounter. Sincerely, X-IX: B1 'YEARBOOK SPONSORS: This brief record of our years at the Columbia University Medical Center represents the skills of many and the generosity of many.
