1Brzfarz HIRTY-NINE years ago there appeared at Columbia a publication designed to record the student activi- ties of the college year. It was only a double sheet, very much the size of the daily paper of a modern university, but it served its purpose as the activities were scarce indeed. For over twenty-live years, under the name C olmnbiad, this annual was published by the junior Class. As the College grew, however, so its year book grew, not only in size 'but in importance. Finally, in 1890, the name was changed to- that which it now bears, The C0lZL1'IfLb'ZiCl1'Z. As each new book has appeared, a higher standard, and one more difficult to attain, has been established. We trust, ho-wever. that we have not only reached the high standard set by the IQO4 Columbian, but that we have set a new one for our successors to strive to reach. We have no doubt made mistakes, but we can only hope that our readers will not linger too long over them. There are many who have lent a most willing hand to help us overcome the difficulties with which we so often found ourselves confronted, and to them we would express our gratitude.
