KANIG Joe Description — Who will ever forget Professor Kanig ' s fine lectures on phar- maceutical preparations? Cosmetics have never been discussed and if you don ' t believe it, ask Professor Kanig. Assay — Upon surface activation in an aerosol container Professor Kanig is a staunch believer in HLB. He has occasionally yielded a smile but only occa- sionally. He will always be remembered as a man whose wife is a constant user of hand creams, body creams, cold creams, face creams, hormone creams, wrinkle creams and sour cream. Incompatibilities — Cosmetics and the Class of ' 61. Category — Aerosol, surfactant. ROGER MANTSA VINOS Roger Description — One of the best liked faculty members, according to the Class of ' 61. Dr. Mantsavinos had the gift of humor plus an uncanny means of trans- mitting subject matter to his students. We will be the wiser for having him transform many subjects which previously were confusing into live and under- standable knowledge. Assay — One biochemistry lecture plus one shopping list and one laundry list intertwined in the lecture yields one pleasant and highly respected individual. AUGUST A. DISOMMA Augie Description — Professor DiSomma is an independent individual of high princi- ples who rarely takes any guff from his students. He is rarely seen without his partner Aldehyde Jacobs. His many attributes include an unfailing sense of humor and a continuing desire to instil in his students the credo, Honesty is the best policy. Assay — One bottle of warm Pepsi, one cold organic lab. and pressure from a class of students yields one generous, rarely annoyed individual who also takes upon himself the instruction of ethics to his charges. Incompatibilities — Cold Coke, pentavalent carbons, unethical pharmacists. Category — Selenio acid. 1 L 1 A % )bl 2 MARGARET C. STAUD Maggie Description — A person of small stature, friendly smile and willingness to give assistance to any student asking for it. Adept at dismembering various animals while the class viewed the procedure in agony. Assay — One pithed frog plus one kymograph yields one memorable ordeal in physiology lab. Incompatibilities — Class of ' 61. Category — Zoology, Physiology. LUCY W. CLAUSEN Lucy Description — This flower of the microbiological world has a stimulating personality and a passionate mania for vector stick pins. One of the closest friends of the Senior Class, Dr. Clausen stands ready to cooperate when students need help. Assay — This biological preparation when subjected to complement-fixation or a Weil-Felix test using the OK strain of Proteus vulgaris exhibits all the positive characteristics for eliciting antibody formation in her students in the form of knowledge. M. IRENE BAILEY M.I.B. Description — Professor Bailey was one of the first faculty members we met as freshmen and the first to introduce us to a close faculty-student relationship. She also taught the students much about the New York Subway System and its counterpart — chemical equilibrium. Assay — Professor Bailey plus one chemistry exam yields one scale of justice plus one big heart. Incompatibilities — Failures. Category — Chemotherapeutic agent. ' bTV B fa. ■ m WILLIAM L. WEINGOLD Willie Description — Professor Weingold may readily be seen polishing his diction and practicing the art of wrinkling his nose. He is the first faculty member we encountered who required impeccable attire for our pharmacy lab. We will always be thankful for the separation of the ointments and solutions into two different semesters — -what a final that would have made. Assay — Emulsify with acacia and the Continental Method, the resulting con- glomeration will not readily crack and is compatible with most substances encountered at CUCP. Incompatibilities — U.S. P., N.F., Remington and the Class of 61. Category — Pharmaceutical Technology. ALVIN GALINSKY Minute Man With Microphone Description — Dr. Galinsky comes to us by way of the University of Illinois better late than never! A true gentleman who has instilled in the Class of ' 61 a measure of respect and propriety. Assay — Carefully measure two grams of hydrogen bonding, one milligram of resonance and a high partition coefficient, mix well and the end product shows a direct relationship between physiochemical properties and biologic action. The above relation may also be achieved by obtaining a good understanding of Organic Medicinals. Incompatibilities — Improperly attired students. Category — Pharmaceutical necessity. 13
