Most students at CUCP don ' t know which course Prof. Taub teaches until they reach the senior year. As a matter of fact, many students haven ' t been able to determine what course the good professor teaches even by the end of their senior year. As nearly as can be determined by the present senior class, he teaches a course in How to Figure the Percentage of Winners on an Average Day at Tropical Park Using the West- phal Balance. Prof. Taub, who receives more mail than Errol Flynn gets law suits, has many unusual interests. Lack of space makes it impossible to touch on all of them but we must mention the fact that he has been learning to dance with Arthur Murray for several years. As Prof. Taub puts it, Arthur is an excellent instructor, but it ' s more fun to dance with Kathryn. SAMUEL S. LIBERMAN Professor DiSomma! A flood of memories comes pouring out at the sound of that name. We think of the earnest chemist in his neat, orderly office drinking warm Pepsi Cola and working on an experiment to send long chained fatty acids to Slenderella to slim them into simple alcohols. We can smile at some of the things that went on in organic chemistry but each of us took away a little something from the laboratory. Some took funnels, some took beakers, etc. Despite all our fumblings and mistakes Pro- fessor DiSomma continually believed that his ef- forts were not in vain. To him we owe a great debt of thanks for the understanding and patience he showed toward us when organically all was lost . ABRAHAM TAUB Behind a student body there must be a guiding force or the purpose of education is lost. That guiding force here at the college is our incom- parable Professor Samuel S. Liberman. It is quite a difficult task to extol the virtues of a man who comes pretty near to being indescribable. As if being a professor of chemistry were not enough to occupy his valuable time, he is also substitute father, crying towel, and anything else that may be needed at the moment. He is never too busy to listen to any problems you may have and he is always willing to help solve them. These fine points and many others, too many to enumerate, help to keep Professor Sam high on our list of good guys . AUGUST A. DISOMMA 12

After a few of Professor Bailey ' s lectures it became apparent that she was familiar with two things — students and subways. She tried to asso- ciate both of these with molecules, sometimes with little success, at others with surprising results. At any rate she did manage to instil into our minds the basic chemistry knowledge that was essential to all our subsequent chemistry courses. Our class quickly adopted the phrase Ma Bailey in response to her helpful attitude toward us as students which has endured even now to our senior year. She was not only a teacher but a guide as well. There is still one mystery associated with Prof. Bailey and that is how she could enjoy the food from our cafeteria so much. CHEMISTRY Sherlock Holmes has his Dr. Watson, George Burns has his Gracie Allen, Sharpe has Dohme and Professor DiSomma has Mr. Jacobs. No one has a better right hand man, Mr. Jacobs always reminded us of a battle surgeon. With fires blaz- ing all around him, blood dripping from cut fingers and students beseeching him to set up their apparatus, did he panic? You bet he did. Actually though, he seemed able to handle every crisis, large or small, with equal facility. His relaxed bearing was the tranquilizer that calmed the fevered brain of many a frantic em- bryo scientist. Mr. Jacobs is an instructor we will all be hearing big things about real soon. He smokes in bed. ALLEN JACOBS 13
