MR. POMP PICKS . . THE I 9 THE FIRST DOG IN CHURCH Tom had a dog named Wags, Wags loved Tom and Tom loved Wags. ll was a Sunday morning when Tom wenl lo church. Bul he didn'l like lo go wilhoul his dog. Church was nol a place lor dogs. Tom was in lhe car hoping lhal his dog would be all righl al home. Tom walked inlo church and sal down. A man was silling near lhe door who knew Tom. He saw oul on lhe church slep lhal lhere was a dog. The dog barked and pul his paw on lhe door. He gol lhe door open. ln he walked, lhen he barked. All al once Tom looked. Oh! could lhal be Wags? ll was! Then he almosl broke in lears. He was afraid. He said, Wags, Wags, come here. He made lhe dog lie down. When church was over, all lhe people said lhal was lhe lirsl dog lhal lhey had seen in church. Tom was proud ol his dog lor being lhe lirsl dog in church. And when Wags gol home, he gol a big bone and lrom lhal day lo lhis, Tom is well known and Wags gol a new name. ll was King. He gol his name in honor ol being lhe lirsl dog in church. He did nol wanl lo lake care ol lhe sheep! His lriend, Lillle Eagle, had a horse ol his own and did nol have lo lake care ol lheir shee ! Almosl all Lillle Ea , ad lo do was ride his horse. All ol a sudden he said, A-A HORSE! He had received his wish! Now he and his lriend, l.illle Eagle, could ride and ride and ride all day long.
