From the opening night at Kelly Field in Oregon City, the Colum- bia Prep aggregation showed superiority to opponents of the Big Nineug trouncing Sandy and lfstacada each in one quarter to the tune of 7-0. ln the first half of the first league game against Parkrose it looked had for the Preps, the score at the half heing Columbia 7, Parkrose 12. During the second half the Preps took eommand of the hall game and ran Parkrose ragged, the final seore heing Preps 33. Parkrose 12. From here on the Crusaders steadily marched through all league opposition defeating listacada 34-03 St. Stephens 59-l2g Gresham 7-Og Hill l-l--U. ln one of their off moments they were tied hy Canhy 7-7. In their non-league games the Preps lost to the powerful Astoria eleven 6-0, and Gervais was shellaeked 32-12 hy the Prep's B team. The men mainly responsible for this highly successful season were Co-Captains Don Gillis, end, who was on the All-Area and Big Nine star eleven. and Chuck Dugan. another Big Nine All-Star player. Others who did their share and more were -lack Doherty, guard: .lim illadigan, tackleg Steve Sandmeyer, endg Hugh Lacey, halfhackg Fred Hansen, halfhack. all of whom were on the Big Nine All-Star teams. The hackfield was composed of Paul Allen. quarterhaekg Hugh Lacey and lfred Hansen. halfhacksg Paul O l'oole, fullback. The men who relieved these were john Hoffman, lloh llernbach, john Pienoyi and Marty Schmidt. The line whose weight averaged 190 pounds consisted of Don Gillis, right endg .lim llladigan, right taekleg Tom Hollcraft, right guard: Gordon Carlson, centerg jack Doherty. left guardg Chuck Dugan. left taekleg Steve Sandmeyer, left end.
