74 da r Q r Upon the successful completion of your course of studies l extend my congratulations, but I also wish to express my regret that your sojourn in the School is approaching an end, We of the Faculty will miss you after you have gone, but we shall follow your careers with constant interest and will be ever ready and willing to lend a helping hand. We hope that you will remember us with the same affection that we have for you. Most of you are veterans of the last war. Each of you was chosen for admission to the School because of your superior ability as evidenced by your scholastic record and, in most instances, a record of distinguished service to your country, You came to us mature and experienced men and women with high purpose and with the imagination, the courage and the stamina that made possible your splendid work in the School. These qualities of character and of mind should carry you far toward the attainment of your ultimate desires. Notwithstanding the School's inadequate physical quarters you have been fortunate in your association with one of the most experienced and distin- guished law faculties in the United States. The overcrowded conditions under which you labored have interfered with your physical comfort but the associa- tion with able classmates and gifted teachers has provided you with an intellec- tual stimulus that should serve you well in the years ahead. l Columbia Law School owes much to your class. By the high standards of scholarship and performance that you have maintained you have set an exam- ple that should inspire your successors. Through your interest in improving legal education as evidenced by the conference of law students last summer, your efforts to bring the alumni and students closer together by the establish- ment of the Columbia Law School News, your contributions to reviving and making more effective the work of the moot courts, your stimulation of the Student Council to take a more active part in the School's affairs, including the placement of its graduates, your part in restoring the high quality of the Columbia Law Review, and your publication of Kent Commentaries, you have built an esprit de corps within the School that will be invaluable in its future development. ln behalf of the University and of the Faculty of Law l wish to express full appreciation for all you have done and l wish each of you success and happiness in the years to come. Cordially yours, 6? DEAN 8
