In spite of these odds they shut out East Donegal in their first game to the tune of 7-0, and the following week defeated them 6-5. Although the Columbia batsmen were handed six suc- cessive defeats, they showed excellent form and good prospects for the future. They again batted their way into the win column by de- feating Manheim Township 6-2. In their final contest they lost a hard fought game to Ephrata 4-5. The Pep Squad The thrills and excitement of our athletic events would be incomplete without these six vivacious cheer- leaders. As our pepsters, they are responsible for the enthusiasm built up in the C.H.S. pep meetings before each football game. From the minute the game begins until the final whistle is blown, the girls must be Iohnny-on-the-Spot, to meet each new situation with an appropriate cheer. Nor does their work stop with the close ot the gridiron season. With the advent of basketball they must expound their energy twice a week by adding to their repertoire, cheers suitable for the sport. Their willingness and co-operation in cheering the teams to victory deserves much well-earned credit. Under Miss Searightls Leadership I T-E-A-M seems to be the appropriate yell for our victorious boys. Lower right: O.K. Everybody! Let's give the old locomotive all we have. This title which was endowed upon the Iuniors had put a glow on their faces and a lilt in their step. How im- portant and proud they were-especially when an eighth or ninth grader looked up admirably and said, Gee! Their exhilaration slowly faded away as the class settled down to work harmoniously together. Elec- tions were held and class officers proudly assumed their positions and took over the class. Honor stu- dents quickly got to work on studies and were re- warded for all their time spent. Finally, the much awaited and dreamed about Iunior-Senior prom arrived. The girls, feeling very grown up and lovely in their taffetas, nets, and mar- quisettes, and the boys, neatly groomed in their suits and tuxedos, had a wonderful time and the affair was a huge success. While pedestrians walked carefully and warily about, our Iunior fellows and girls sported their drivers' licenses and borrowed Dad's car to show at school they had really mastered Driver Training. With so much activity, school seemed to slip by on wings. As the last day approached, a long vacation was waiting, but the Iuniors looked to their next school year when they would hold the cherished place of SENIORS. EDWARD BARNES In their Sophomore year, these students be- gan to settle down and concentrate upon their newly-selected courses. History, instead of Civics, biology, and algebra were added to their curriculum. The Sophomores had a well rounded and regulated year. Report cards proved that a sin- cere effort was made to acquire recognition as good students. Assemblies and class partici- pation showed us that there was real talent among them. Muscles were revealed in wres- tling and other gymnastic teamwork. The class was led capably by the officers whom they had chosen to represent them. Many joined new clubs and made every effort possible to keep their Alma Mater one to which they could look with pride. Dances and class parties highlighted the Sophomores' year and made it a very enjoy- able one. However, the next year will be even more pleasant. They will emerge from their summer vacation to find that they are now upperclass- men with a year that will be full of lessons, dances and fun!
