B. KENNEDY, Ph. B., A. M Superintendent 520272 1 1 1 3 4 x THE CLASS OF 1932 OUR LIFE A place in life is ours to fill, Each senior that is entering Into the world. It may not be a silken place With downy covers edged in lace-our destiny in life, But if dark night our path adorns And Happiness our highway scorns, Yet that path leads to brighter morn Than earth's, who dares complain? When grief and sorrow shade our way. Like storm-clouds swiftly gathering Before the sun, then we say, 'Tis but a trial, Myself to this I'll reconcile-Thy will be done. And if true happiness we find A We'1l not to other's griefs be blind, TFor someone has to us been kind Somewhere+-we'1l pass it on. Then when triumphant we have reached That goal we set in starting out, And can look back, among those hours of yesterday And find those who are proud to say, He was my friend, Then at the sinking of our sun When that tomorrow has begun If we can read those words, Well done! Our life will not have been in Vain. -Hazel Smith 6 ,A. , MOTTO-Climb though the rocks are rugged CLASS FLOW ER-Eldora Carnation. CLASS COLORS-Orchid and Silver. Editor-in-Chief-Cleon Yohe Advisers-Mr. Shaw, Miss Griffin thirty-rfive E K if GLEE CLUBS The Glee Club, one of the most active musical organizations in Co- lumbia High School, is composed of sixty members. During the past year, these mem-bers gave more entertainment to the public than ever before. ' In addition to the assembly programs, appearances at town meet- ings, the Christmas Cfanta, and the January Concert-which were all very successful-this club presented one of the most successful operettas ever produced in Columbia, The Lass of Limerick Town, witha clever plot and very pleasing music. The work was done under the guidance of Miss Minich, to whom much credit is due. The Orchestra at present boasts a membership of thirty-th-ree, which is sufficient in number to Warrant the rendering of numbers which .areeabove the average in technique. . Besides aconcert given very successfully this year, the aggrega- tion has entertained at several functions in and out of school. The triumph of the season comes for them each year when they serve in thepit for the annual operetta. . With the organization of the grade school orchestra, there is a constant flow of talent into high school each year, and although the seniors are always missed, it is only a matter of time until everything is running smoothly because of the remaining nucleus of the old members. The various members then completed the projects of their choice, and gave the whole club the benefits of their labors. Some of the work was in the following fields: Chemistry, Radio, Aeronautics, Physics, and Electricity. The meetings of this club are devoted to French games, spelling contests, cross-word puzzles, singing, etc. They also give a program in Assembly at least once a year. Ten copies of Le Petit Journal have been placed in ofur library by the organization this year. ' Perhaps one of the most interesting entertainments enjoyed by the club this year Was the play, Le Voyage de Monsieur Perrichon, given by the Green Room Club of Franklin and Marshall College at Lancaster, Pa. This play was especially interesting because it is a Junior French requirement. Frank Pennypacker '29 and George Binkley '28, former members of the club, were among the cast of characters in this play. il.. There are at present thirty members in the club. The purpose of this organization is to teach the boys the fundamentals underlying the construction of airplanes. Mr. Saj a, who is also a sponsor of the club, has offered valuable suggestions. Many scale models, as well as flying models, have been built. The club is divided into three groups, each group building a particular type of plane. ' In this Way, as many types as possible can be built. Con- tests will be held at various times to ascertain which type of plane is best adapted for endurance flights. We are aiming to produce a plane that will be Worthy of National Competition. The purpose of the Hi-Y club is To Create, Maintain, and Extend Throughout the School and Community High Standard of Christian Character. The clfub platform is clean living, clean speech, clean sports, and clean scholarship, and it is the duty of every boy to try to fulfill these measures. U The most important feature that the Hi-Y Club sponsored this year was the annual Father and Son 'Banquet held in St. John's Lutheran Church on the evening of Thursday, March 31. All those who attended will long remember the very interesting talk by Major Lynn G. Adams, -Supe-rintendent of the Pennsylvania State Police. Although the Hi-Y Club is only in its second year, it has grown rapidly and at the present time there are thirty-one members enrolled. i1, li-fi OFFICERS Vice President-Arthur Potter Secretary-Cleon Yohe Treasurer-Edgar Evans Sponsor-Mr. Greene President-George McGinne-ss fourty-five w i 5 1 J J H FIIINIIIE ENGHAVING BY YORK COLOR PLATE CO PHOTOGRAPHS BY WAKEFIELD.
