Prophecy ; : i CLASS PROPHECY Today is the big day! After twenty years the class of 1968 is together again. Yes, it’s our first class reunion. Walking around looking at the different people brings to my mind how times, as well as people, have changed. Popular music has even changed with the creation of Billy and the Wanderers. Lead guitar player and singer, BILLY BATEMAN, has really become popular since he last appeared on the new Ed Sullivan Show. There’s RAYMOND ALEXANDER. No, he hasn’t changed much. He’s still playing basketball as well as he did at good old C.H.S. He is now playing for the Harlem Globe Trotters. Sitting on the bench is his number one fan—DALLAS SPRUILL. Dallas accepted the job as team water girl just so she could sit and admire Raymond. I remember when ARNETTE CAHOON was office assistant during our last year of high school. Now she is a private secretary for a well-known electrical company. She is now working on a project that is planning to install individual lights on each seat of the modern activity buses. There’s KENNY BATEMAN. He did complete one of his ambitions—he graduated from N.C. State. At the present time, Kenny is mak- ing plans to travel to the underdeveloped countries of the world where he is planning to teach his most accomplished subject —French. FREDA WEATHERLY finally reached her goal after six years of long, hard work at school and of practice training. Yes, she has reached the top. She is now the staff nurse at Gum Neck Community Hospital. The community is raising funds to build a new elevated hospital to keep the water from flooding the first floor when the tide is high. With MAVIS PAYNE as chief designer, I know the project will be a big success. Over there in the comer are the four Kidds. After MARIE BRICKHOUSE and WAYNE KIDD got married, they changed very little. They are still arguing and fighting just as they always have. The only difference in their arguments is that now they have two little Kidds to keep the losing parent from losing by such a great margin. The streets of Columbia are no longer safe since FRANKIE DAVENPORT and CHUCKY SIMMONS have gained the title of “Hot Rods of the Year”. A special project, the Davenport—Simmons Raceway, is under construction. It is being built in Sound Side since they both have interests there. Just two years ago FARA HASSELL joined the Marine Corps. It provides a way for her to travel, and she can also keep up with her marine “buddy”. : DELMO CAHOON was the president of the Beta Club and Student Council his senior year at C.H.S. Now he has advanced and has the title of Secretary-General of the United Nations. Through his efforts, the world has made a big step toward peace. As I look back, I can see BILL DILLON acting as the class clown. He is still acting as a clown, but now he is getting paid for it. He works with Ringling Brothers’ Circus and is ranked the best the circus has ever had. He goes by the name of “Blue Boy”. DRU DAVENPORT has become one of the most famous fashion models in Hollywood. She models for many teenagers’ magazines, such as “Sixteen”. She is also making millions, posing for different television and magazine advertisements. There are plans being made for her to appear in a new movie that is being produced by LEONARD FURLOUGH. Leonard has become a famous movie producer and di- rector. His most famous movie is “Adventures in Gum Neck”. ELIZABETH SMITH enjoyed dancing so much that she decided to make a career of it. She is a popular singer and dancer at the Tropi- Columbia, the main center of the entertainment and recreation in Columbia. CLARENCE FISHER was always one to enjoy adventure. He is now working for an organization that is studying underwater life by means of a submarine. His next assignment is to travel deep into the waters of the Scuppernong River and make reports of the life he finds there. VIRGINIA HATHAWAY married Ronald Cooper soon after graduation. Now the two of them own and operate the only Chevrolet car lot in Columbia. Virginia is still driving Ronald around because his car still has bucket seats, and she doesn’t like to sit on the console. HARRIET DAVENPORT has taken over the management of Columbia Hotel. She stays there all week, day and night, waiting for Lawrence to come home from his out-of-town job. Julia’s farm extends from Alligator to Columbia and Stephenia’s reaches from Scuppernong Community to Columbia. Stephenia is noted for growing cotton that is converted into thread used for making fishnet hose. ROGER HUDSON has taken over his father’s dairy and has enlarged it. He now owns the largest dairy in southeastern North Carolina. His milk is sold to stores all over the country under the name of Sealpet. KATHY WITHERS graduated from N.C. State and reached her ambition as an architect. She designed her own mansion and is now drawing plans for a little white house on Pennsylvania Avenue for Robert Kennedy. Rembrant went out of style when DOTTY SIMMONS started selling her modern paintings to Main Street Art Gallery in Columbia. Her most famous painting was entitled “Mona Jones”. FAYE JONES, a famous hair stylist and part-time model, posed for this exotic piece of art. Faye has her shop on Fifth Avenue in New York where she styles hair for the many different celebrities. NATHAN JACKSON was hired by the F.B.I. to track down smugglers. He still uses his truck because it is a lot faster than the cars the F.B.I. issues to its employees. JO ANN REYNOLDS is an accomplished secretary and, at the present time, is working for a produce market in Pea Ridge so she can keep a watch out for her “‘friend” who lives there. WANDA PHELPS bought the Citgo Service Station when her father decided to sell it. Her main customer comes from Plymouth, driv- ing a blue and white Chevrolet. He really keeps the business thriving. SHIRLEY VOLIVA and ANN SWAIN are working on a very important scientific project. They are planning to send a human in orbit in a satellite to land on the moon. This human is going to be MARY RHODES. I’m sure their project will be a big success and be of great value to future explorations. I guess my classmates are not the only ones who have changed through the years. I have also enjoyed many new experiences while tray- eling abroad with my husband, Charles, who has made a career of the Armed Services. Well, this is enough reminiscing. I had better get back and join the others in the fun. After all, this is a once-in-twenty years affair.
