Ce 55 History In 1947 we, the Seniors, started making our history at C.H.S. when Mrs, Camille Everton and Miss Mary E. Weeks welcomed us into the First Grade, We were all very excited over beginning our first year at school. After learning how to read, Baby Ruth is here, Baby Ruth can run, we were promoted to Mrs. Rachel Spencer's Second Grade. Mrs. Jane Pollard and Mrs, Helen Melson greeted us as we stepped into the Third Grade. Miss Martha Sykes and Mrs, Lillian Fisher, our Fourth Grade teachers, taught us many things, including how to put away our childish habits. In the Fifth Grade our class was together, with Miss Rose Bateman as our teacher. When the next year rolled around, we were again separated, with Mrs. Mary Walker and Miss Hettie Jones teaching us, In the Seventh Grade, five Gum Neck students invaded the tranquillity of our class while Mrs. Mary Walker and Mrs. Florence Chaplin taught us. All through the grammar grades, it seemed as though we would never reach high school, but there we stood, just itching to get into high school, with Miss Jessie Flythe and Mrs. Mary Walker as our Eighth Grade teachers. Then we were in high school! That wonderful, big, frightening world where we, as Freshmen, were Jost but struggling hard to get a foot-hold while Mrs, Margurite Christjohn, and later Mrs, Eloise Smith, guided us. In our Sophomore year, C.H.S. was privileged to get two new teachers, Mr. Fred Johnson and Mr, J. C. Winstead, with Mr. Johnson as our homeroom teacher, We were immensely proud of all the money we made by selling shirts since that was our first money-making plan. We also served at the Junior-Senior Banquet, Our Junior year was filled with exciting things like our play entitled, No Boys Allowed, our trip to Washington, and getting our class rings. Finally we were Seniors, which is almost as scary as being Freshmen. Anna Jo Everton, a new student from Norfolk, joined us, but we lost Ann Spencer Brickhouse, and now we are busy planning our annual and getting ready for Homecoming. When we receive our diplomas, the history of our class as a group ends, and each member will write his own history by his future deeds. May we all have bright scnaner PAT COHOON Historian
