Gradually we became used to the school and Having more confidence we became Involved in extracurricular activities Joining clubs and teams, Knowing that they took time and effort, but Loving the rewards they offered. 5 Moving on to our junior year we were No longer new to the system Or afraid of it. Problems in schoolwork and friendships, Questions which had troubled us were Resolved more easily now; we had matured. 7 COLLEGE BOARO ACHIEVEMENT TF IS m ..•— fQh OMPLET !N j TP. Too soon came our first SAT and plans for leaving high school Under this pressure we began our senior year Very experienced and sophisticated compared to the incoming sophomores. We must prepare for the outside world; our time at Columbia is short. The Cougars, new members of the Iron Hills Conference earned third place with a 6-3-3 record. The team played very well on both offense and defense, continually displaying their skill, and training from Coach Melinda Gardner. The attack was led by the hustling playmaking of All- State Honorable Mention, Captain Regina Sullivan, and Co-captain Jessie Brubaker, aided by the agile scoring power of Mary Pat Sherwood. Balancing the offense, was a superb defense led by the sharp stick-handling of gra- duating senior Andrea Paolel- la, and the keen goal-tending of All-State Honorable Men- tion Lisa Rott, who recorded eight shut-outs. The Cougars entered both the Essex County and State Tournaments, seeded third and fourth respectively, end- ing with an overall record of 7-7-3. BOWLING TEAM Standing: D. Berman, G. Thomas, M. UECHI-RYU Uechi Ryu is a form of Chinese fighting arts. It is derived from a style of Shaolin Kung Fu based on the ani- mal movements of the tiger, dragon, and crane, which are embraced in three forms: Sanchin, Seisan, and San Seiryu. Uechi Ryu Karate is broken down into three spheres: Physical Art, Self Defense, and Sport. The main em- phasis, however, is devoted to the physical art, a concentrating of the mind and the body in a circular path of blocks, kicks, and deflections. Uechi Ryu is a style which retains the hard- ness of Okinawan Karate, yet the soft- ness of its counterpart in China, Kung STANDING: C. Clark, R. Schartz, Miss Neide. KNEELING: W. Brown, J. The Free Student Alliance would like to offer its congratulations to the graduat- ing class of '78, and wish them the best of luck. We want them to remember to always be aware of what is going on around them. That is the main reason behind the Free Student Alliance. We exist to devel- op a student awareness of freedom, political rights, and ways to express stu- dent ideas. Our newspaper, “The Mind of the Red Mole,” expresses our point of view and encourages other students to express theirs. We also take stands on issues outside of school. In this past year, we have had speakers from such organizations as The American Civil Liberties Union, The War Resisters League, The Claimshell Al- liance, and The Mobilization for Survival. Also, we hope to become part of Amnesty International. Now that the class of ’78 are adults, it becomes even more important for you to stand up and be counted.
