DEDICATION I'lie high school years of the class of 1944 saw the United States change from a country at peace to a powerful nation at war. The conflict in which we have become embroiled has altered our lives at Columbia. We have undertaken new studies to prepare ourselves to aid in the battle for victory; we have devoted our free moments to making direct contributions, in such ways as possible, to the war effort; we have had to change our future plans and to delay the pursuit of our careers until we shall have secured a peace once more. It seems appropriate, therefore, that we, the class of 1944, dedicate our Mirror to the concept that means so much to us— Looking forward, we find that we have a new future to face, a new future for ourselves and for the world, a future that we must plan and work for. Many of our classmates are now lighting to preserve those ideals upon which the world of tomorrow must he based, and it will not he long before we, too, shall have joined the struggle. When the war is won, it will rest with us, the students of today, to help make the post war world worthy of those who died for its sake. We will build it upon democratic ideals, and we will strive to make it a place in which our futures will he secure and in which we shall he proud to have our children live. A LASTING WORLD PEACE
