Class History f NCE again we pause to review our term in Columbia High School. With a feeling of regret, we stop and glance over the happy, joyful years of senior high school. Little did we realize the number of oppor- tunities that were available to us when we first entered these portals; however it wasn't long before many of our classmates utilized these opportunities to their fullest extent. So now let us review the accom- plishments of the class of '37. Members of our class competed in every sort of activity in the school. In dramatics we have a fine record. In our sophomore year the Sopho- more Dramatic Club presented many excellent productions. Among these was the annual May Day pageant. This was received with much acclaim and praise. In our junior year, our presentation was the musical hit, Once Around the Clock . The cast included such talented actors and actresses as Marjorie Van Morstein, Edgar Morrison, Jane Williams, and a host of others. Also in the span of our junior year, the pageant, The American Way , was given by the Parnassian Society to commemorate the three- hundredth anniversary of secondary education in the United States. In the cast were many students of the class of '37; many of the scenes were written by junior English classes. Then, as the crowning achievement, The Rivals , the senior play, received tremendous ovations from all who saw it. With this play as its final stage production, the senior class, as a group, closed its book on dramatics. In the field of sports we had many outstanding performers. Bob Hildebrand certainly made a name for himself in football. Also Buddy Bond, Phil Capella, John McMannis, and many other members of our class made the varsity in this sport. In swimming Seth Eberhardt, Carl Adam, Don Speilman, Jack Dunn, and Tom Morton were point-getters for our team, last year and this. Fred Spingler was the heaviest hitter on the baseball team, and Bob Kohl was sensational in his pitching. Dan Provost showed his superb goalie ability in hockey in his first two years. Basketball produced such players as Bud McMullen, and Bill Powley. In tennis, Jack Bedea carried Columbia's colors. Our track record was upheld by such sterling tracksters as John Brundage, Nick DeLuca, Milton Frenchman, Bob Hildebrand, and Frank Weiner. John Brundage, as president of the Student Council, added much to the betterment of the school. Jack Torbert and his violin are well-known to all. Gilbert Dunklin, president of the Guild, is also Editor-in-Chief of the Mirror. Many of our class filled responsible positions on the staff of the Columbian. Marjorie Va,n Morstein gained the rare honor of being Editor-in-Chief of the Columbian in her junior year. For three years we have enjoyed the work and play of Columbia High School. Although failures have accompanied successes, we have had the first training for the preparation of later life, and the experiences of these three years will prove invaluable as time goes on.
