Junior High Basketball Byron Countryman played cen- ter on the Junior High and will be expected te do well in basketball next year. Pete Cannon and Nels Carlson held down the forward positions. With hard training these boys will make a winning ball club in the next few years. Lawson played guards. Lawrence was noted for his ball handling and Bill was noted for his speed and dribbling. Bert Wiltse, Charles Wiltse, and Ray Mattisen substitued and proved to be very usefull when needed. Bert and Ray were very good shots but were handieaped A Lawrence McNamara and Bill by their size. next yoans team, left- Ray Anderson filled the end position very capably until he was injured during a game. Ray will be back in next years lineup. P Bill Lawson came late in the season with many promises of be- ing a good football lplayer. Bill will be a great benefit to next years team. . Alfred Brisbois, quarter back, filled the position very well. Ho is a hard driving and faking ballhandler. This was Alfred's first year as quarter back,but he will be back next year to fill out the position with his snappy play and signal calling. Edward Angstrom, left half- back, with his passing attack was a great benefit to his team. Ed is a sophomore and will star on next years team. With more experience Ed's running and blocking will improve. , Ray Addington, right half- bach, with the speed of light- ning and hard driving line plunges, assisted the Lions to victory more than once. Ray is a sophomore and will be the ace of next years squad. - Senior High Basketball Jim Carlson, 'flashy junior, held down center position on the starting lineup with the greatest ability. Jim improved throughout the season and will star continually on next year's team. He is an excellent ball handler and a very good shot. Holding down the guard ppsi- tions were those speedy sopho- mores, Ed Angstrom and Hal Davis. They work nicely on the back- beard and were a great benefit to the team. They should star throughout next years season with the results of more ox- perionco. Forward positions were held down by these all-star Burgess boys. Lorin is a sophomore and Loy a senior. They are both -nu.Q-of-u-.-. good ball handlers and wonderful shots which lead the team to many victories. Beings this is Loys last year he will be missed on next years team. Lorin will be back starring to full extent with next-years championship five. -The five substitutes that traveled with the team and played their hearts out but sel- dom were Dick Jennings, Larry Hanner, Archie Bradeen, Alfred Brisbois, and Orville Kcmmerer. These boys are all fair ball handlers and shots. Their man- agers on the floor were very good. Larry is the only senior and will be missed considerably. The Columbia High School base ball team for the season of 1948 won four and lost five games. The team was made up of the following players: Larry Hanner, senior, played first base with the ability of a veteranl Larry isia good hitter and has a good arm. He scooped grounders with ease and will be missed on next years squad. On second base we found tho mighty Brisbois that never missed and with a wonderful arm. Alfred is a junior, with two years experience on second. He will be a great second baseman next year. Short stop was taken care of by Lorin Burgess, a flashy sophomore. Lorin is a good hitter with a good arm. When shifted to catcher, Lorin showed his greatest baseball ability. He will star in that position during his next two seasons of baseball. Hal Davis, powerful third baseman, covered the bag without trouble. Hal has a good arm and is a good hitter. Hal's great- est handicap was scooping groun- ders. Hal is a sophomore and will be a good man on next years team. On the mound we found Edward Angstrom and Jim Carlson. Angstrom is a sophomore and has a Wonderful arm and control that 18 Outstanding. He is a good hitter and will star throughout his next two years of high school. Jim, a' junion,wus the relief pitcher with great ability. Jim is a fair hitter and should help make a powerful battery next year. Holding down the catchers position was the four year letterman, Loy Burgess. Ho is a good hitter with a good arm. He shifted to short stop later in the season to star continually. Loy will be missed on next years squad. Orville Kommerer proved to be a very good right fielder, as he had a good arm and a good eye for catching flies. Orville seemed to hold his part in hit- ting with the rest of the team. Archie Bradeen played center field and filled the position very well. He was a hard and long distance hitter and did very well behind the bat.- Ray Addington, our only lefty on the team, did a very good job in left field. He was a hard hitter and was noted for his fast peg into home. Dick Jennings, Kermit Boissoneau, Don Emerson, Frank Berglund, and Albert Anderson , also'preved to be very useful when needed.
