unlwrn lt seemed as though the night of June 5 1962 would never come It was to be the night of Class Reunron for the Columbra Hrgh School Class of 1952 The brg shrndrg was to take place at the Chase Club rn St Lours The reason for going to St Lours was be cause of an rnvrtatron extended by the owner of the club for free eats drrnks and dancrng Now ordrnarrly thrs would seem very odd but rt Just so happened that the owner wasa former classmate ofours To speak more clearly rt s James Iuenglrng who followed the steps of his father by establrshrng a successful busrness place By hrs srde was standing hrs wrfe Iona lookrng prettier than ever By the way the couple has twrn boys' As I glanced over the table so beautifully decorated rt made me feel as rf I were on top of the world Istart d over to sav Hello to all the krds But off to a srde table sat the fellows who were always together They were talkurg about old times before the banquet began Iwentover to say Hr to Sam Hem Olrver Rey Bobby Klern and Floyd Buettner Everyone trred to talk at once but the frrst thmgl heard was thatSam was teaching agriculture at Waterloo Hrgh School Floyd and Olrver were farmers Ollie operated the largest dairy farm rn the vrcrnrty ol Colr mbra while Floyd sard he had just hired one hundred addrtronal workers to harvest the wheat Bob was now uccessfl l Superintendent of the Columbra Quarry Company rs I walked on further I noticed Betty Boedeker who looked heater than ever contrrbutrng to the fact that she r Ht come a dress designer for MGM of Hollywood Srttrng next to Betty was Nrra Probstmeyer who had gotten SIIL wa operating a boarding house and during the dav was workrng as secretary rn the offrce of Dr Carol Flarres ' wa o startled br the fact that Carol was a doctor that I rushed rrght over to her to frnd out more about rt he s rd she had gone to school for erght years to become a veterrnarran and had been practrcrng for the past two years I rough unmarried Carol wears a sparkler on her left hand The next person I saw was Dolores Rrppelmeyer who as s e had said had become a nurse She rs nursrng at Deaconness Hospital rn St Lours and rs also head nurse of floor drrce Next to Dee were srttrng the famrlrar faces of Brll Swartz Leon Landgraf and Roland Kerm who had allgone to college Brll was now the chref electrical engineer for a leading construction company rn the West while Leon rs at present flying for Trans World Airlines Roland who eloped wrth the professor s daughter during hrs tl rrd year ofcollcge rs now rn hrs own busrness where he srts wrth hrs feet propped up on the desk As I walked on a little IUl'IllLl' I saw the face of Catherrne Kremmel Cathy had gone to college and then rnto the busrness world Tht brg happy smile she wore drdn t surprrse me for next to her was srttrng Ralph Mathews ortcher for tit Chicago Cubs Mac for whom we cheered at high school baseball games had actually hrt the top wrth a season s average of 19 wrnd and 5 loses Last February Cathy and Mac celebrat d therr sixth annrversary From ther I went on to June Schroeder who had gone to school for some trme to studv ro be a harr stylrst At present G V , I I I n ' . . . 1 1 X ' 1 . She rs dorng very well consrderrng the fact that she must put that job rn second place berng a housewife comes frrst Lookrng on to the next person I saw Carol Rrchert and next to her Richard Srmek Carol and Richard had surprised us all by their sudden marrragc shortly after graduation They were looking very content now as they have burlt themselves a cozy cottage rn the country In another group was srttrng Donald Bequette Harry Kuehner and Dale Newton Donald was proud to report that he had worked himself up from office boy to vrce presrdent of the United Bank and Trust Company rn St Lours while Harry has been making hrs mrllrons from the large amount of orl coming from the land he owned Strange as rt seemed he had bought a small prece of ground out west to burld a house for him and hrs famrly when much to hrs surprise some prospectors reported to hrm that orl had gushed out of hrs very ground Dale sard he was now ownerof the Studebaker agency rn Columbra Being naturally skrlled at this type of work he was pleased with hrs posrtron Next rn lrne was Mary Fromme who had changed her name Mary was proud of the fact that three of her frve chrldren had won a baby contest whrch included four counties Across the table sat Gloria Schmrdt who had gone on to busrness college Being a whrz bang at short hand rn hrgh school sne set a world s record rn college by rncreasrng her speed to two hundred words per mrnute Besrde Gloria sat Carole Lewrs who had nothrng but a professronal lrfe srnce hrgh school She began as a ballet dancer and later established her own dancrng school whrch proved successful rrntrl a few years ago when she gave the frrendly face of JoAnn Stumpf Jo sard she had abandoned Columbra for a cute lrttle house rn Waterloo She and Bob her husband are rmmensely happy about their three lovely chrldren Looking on to the next person I recognized the face of Way ne Wersenborn fullback for the Chrcago Bears Thrs rs Wayne sthrrd year of professronal football of whrch all three were successful Seated next to Wayne was Charles Laurent Charles rs at present operatrng a chrcken farm He states that he rarses hrs chrckens screntrfrcally by feedrng them screntrfrcally doc torrng them screntrfrcally and screntrfrcally analyzmg every egg lard Dy the screntrfrc hen Next rn lrne was Herman Stumpf who rs a brg game hunter Lrvrng rnthe North Herman rs doing quite well rn the busrness whrch rs proven by the 1962 Cadrllac he drrves The subject of cars now brought me to the next of my classmates Melvrn Stumpf Melvrn now lrves rn Chicago Where he drrves hrs stock car twrce a week He has done very well rn the races wrnnrng frrst several trmes Besrde Melvrn was Bob Maus who rn the coming electron wrll run for state senator of Illrnors Iudgrng by hrs campaign speeches he rs already elected The last but not least was Shirley Woodcock who rs playrng wrth the famous band of Harry James Recently Shirley had just concluded a tour of the United States Canada England and France Now that we were all rnformed about each other we sat down to enjoy one of the frnest of meals Thrs was a nrght never to be forgotten, for rt was set rn the mrnds ofeach and everyone present as the most emoyable evening ever spent ' I ' N' I .
