The annual staff had planned to ride in a horse-drawn cart, but the poor pony was unable to pull the weight of the cart and stub- bornly refused to go on. Luckily, Micheal Brooks was prepared and his horseless carriage saved the day! jay Wiggins was the big winner in photography at the Fair competitions! He won Best of Class, first place, and three honorable mentions in the student color category. Other fair winners included Debra Collins and Rhonda Langley taking first place in silk screen and sculpture, respectively. Debra Strouhal won second place in silk screen and james Lewis won third in silk screen. Regina Polk took third place in sculpture while jackie Jacobs won third in ceramics. In the jewelry category, Vincent Shorter won first, Kevin Knebel won second andjohny Romero took third. x

Some of the participating organizations were the hand cheerleaders, FT A, FFA, annual staff and LIF1' . This year, seniors had to get down on their knees and beg for a float! When this did not worh, they had to stand up and fight' Floats made from hits were unreasonably expensive, and sponsors felt the money could he better spent another way. So, together aided hy Mrs. Perkins, Mrs. Fowler, Mrs. Ondras, and Mrs. Slacaleh, the senior class made their own fbat. As a result, they not only saved a great deal of money but their float also won Honorable Mention! As Columbia's Fair Queen representative, Dinnie Davidson rode atop the senior float with her escort Lyndon Ward. In spite of everyone's hwely plans for the Fair parade, the sun refused to shine, and the rain poured'! 30 at P f Close Up ,f i Our group visits with Congressman Ron Paul. 1-Iey! He's waving at me! One hundred and eighty students stood on the porch of their hotel as Vice President George Bush drove hy and waved. Consequently each student thought he was the one being honored by the Vice President. Bana Ashley, Prentice Danford,-joy Wiggins, Michael Brooks, Don- na Harris, Nick jenkins, Steven Lamberti, Patricia Havel, Patricia Christian, Ruth Meredith, Lauri Null, Anthony Grice, Mark Skinner, Connie Meuth, jana Smith, Tylene Kessner, and Clem Richardson, were the participants in this years Close Up program in Washington D.C. The group spent six days in our nation's capital. They went to seminars and workshops, toured capital hill and worked with congressmen and senators. They heard speeches and discussed current issues such as the problems in El Salvador and foreign relations with Russia. Although the food was bad, reported Prentice Danford, we still had fun.
