1985 Columbian Columbia High School Lake City, Florida Volume 40 32055 Introduction Seniors 11 Who’s Who 49 Senior Directory 55 Juniors 63 Sophomores 77 Faculty 95 Features 125 Clubs 143 Sports 189 Dedication 236 World Events 239 School days had begun! About seven hours of classes had started. The students bustled from class to class to become enriched in the arts of English, math, and other fun stuff; friends met friends throughout the day to exchange gossip and relieve the mounting tensions; and some students got photographed for the yearbook, as you can see. Who knows ... maybe there’ll even be time to do a little work! Each day, the strangest thing happens at Columbia High School. It occurs at about three- twenty (Tiger time), and it is perhaps the favorite activity practiced by students. It’s called ’dismissal,' but it’s more than that — It’s a time to climb trees, find the correct ride home, and get more pictures taken of your- self for the yearbook. Wow! 4 School days are splashed with recreational retreats, but the pri- mary purpose of school is. of course, education. The learning process challenges both students and teachers alike. Everyone has a set routine and sticks to it, for the most part. There is always time for getting away with something, but the high school experience, on the whole, is great preparation for later steps in life. 5 There is always something happen- ing at Columbia High School. Elections, special projects. Homecoming, and much more. These are the times when students get together in an attempt to get things done RIGHT. Doing work with some- one else makes it much more fun. and generally easier! No doubt. 6 MAY£E SOMEDAY UtUtTALAiS, K, cflAf v30 ' hft e d «t ' ot ,6 «SgT. SSfcMf TkR0UV tw ctA 7 The non-educational side of school life is a real blast. People go clowning around to bring a boost to life’s normal routines. Like wild graffiti, students spray a colorful array of antics to give others, as well as themselves, a little something to keep going. Gosh, do we look good or what? Colum- bia High School blends a diversified body of students into one whole, complete entity that really works for itself. Stu- dents here represent virtually every part of the country and much of the world! For a “small town school we are really very large, but everybody still gets a chance to exchange ideas with many others, which is an important factor in a strong student body. Ah. yes! The science of things: The rain falis, the sun rises in the east, and the students at CHS are still trying to prove it to themselves. With a little time, they’ll get it done ... and if they can’t, they’ll change it! There is a strong determination here that really helps to get things done. That just about says it all. but proof of students’ perfection is shown throughout the yearbook. Well, near-perfec- tion ... you can’t argue with that. I’m Smiling, O.K.? It’s the Junior Class Officers taking a moment out of their busy schedule for a public appearance. We also have an exclusive photo of a Columbia High student hard at work. So now you are wondering if this school is all just torturous labor; no way! Secret ary ;and SXF°r !man' VlCePresiden Lori ” - • 74 There is always a more casual side of life lurking at Columbia High. Actually it doesn’t always lurk . . . much of the time it is exposed full-force. As one might notice, many students don “graffiti” covered clothes to congest the hallways with style. What an experience passing through the halls can be. It almost makes the walks from class bearable! 75 % Activities can be quite outstanding at Columbia High School. We do everything from repairing high-tech machinery to modeling sophisticated clothing. Many skills are learned with the hands-on vocational courses offered, and getting into the work can be a lot of fun. The skit was well done but took 3rd place. The sophomores will be tough competition next year. 5. Friday was the climax of Homecoming Week. There was so much activity the school procedure as we know it almost stopped (except, of course, for Mr. Flanagan’s classes): Shown here is a scene from the Teachers’ skit performed for the students. 6. Friday was Purple and Gold Day. Students showed their spirit by donning the two colors to obtain points for their class. 7. The last activities of Homecoming were the Parade, the Game, and the Dance! Before those off-campus activities, however. Seniors got a little emotional at their last Homecoming Pep Rally as their Senior Class song was played. 128 Sweethearts 129 Mu Alpha Theta: Sharma Atkinson French Club: Dee Roessing DECA: Kelly O’Cain VICA: Cheri Reich Interact: Shannon Hall CHS Band: Kinita Bishop V CA SWfWART cm mm % HOSA - Clara Galloway 130 HOSA • Judy Moore Art Club • Wendy McGrew Art Club Shawn McCauley.
